Bored with the M305 series?

No never could get bored with the M305, M1A, M14 platform. Currently trying to get enough parts for two M14 builds. I always loved the Garands and wish I had more. Your stock/handguards look like they'll be a sweet addition to your Garand. Post pics when switched out. Is it a USGI stock? Cheers millright,

No. Got it from the same person as you got yours. It will go on when its time to gussy it up for now it wears plastic. The Danish/Italian one may get new hand guards as the ones on it are dark unlike the beech stock itself, and the foreward hand guard is loose.

NIce wood ... gotta get my rifle blasted and reparked. :D I wish I had a ton of Garands to tinker with.

You will also need a ton of spare change as good parts are getting harder to find, and more expensive to boot.:p

After re-building and building many of them some of the parts that most often need replacement include handguards, safeties(broken noses), rear sight covers and pinions, gas cylinders, gas cylinder lock screws ( the faces crack and leak gas), firing pins, hammers, extractors & spring/plungers, bullet guides and op rod springs. Fortunately lower band roll pins can be found in any good hdwre store ( 1/2"x1/8" diameter). Op rods tabs and pistons can also wear to the point of unservicability, altho pistons can be replaced. It is a good idea to keep some of these on hand.

Barrels do require replacement in some cases, which calls up a need for a set of barrel blocks, a receiver wrench and a pull thru finishing reamer if installing a new barrel. Then there is a set of headspace gauges, a special tool for removing/installing rear handguard bands, and, of course, a jim-dandy bolt stripping/assembling tool. You may also want to get into parkerizing to refinish the metal-yet another opportunity to spend.

Cdn retail sources are pretty much dried up. You can either go the e-pay route or try Numrich/GPC and Sarco Inc who will export non-designated parts up to the $100 limit. Be advised that Numrich/GPC adds on a $25 export charge.

I got a new clip latch spring from Marstar for $6, all other springs are wolf from Brownells. Strangely their kit comes with every spring except the clip latch spring
