M1 Garand stock question

Did you get to see the Dupage laminate stock Scott ( he ran the butts) brought to the precision clinic ? Very nice !!
They don't ship stocks to Canada .

Deans Gun ships to Canada, they are "drop in" fitted, finished and complete with metal. This is one the Dean's stock sets.

These two are Dupage stock sets. They came unfinished and no butt plate or buttplate hardware. They are made by Boyd's for Dupage and have a good fit.Needed a bit more sanding to get rid of some light marks but nothing serious. The top set was finished with pure tung oil ( 10 coats over 3 months) the bottom set was done with boiled linseed oil (6 coats or more). I prefer the tung oil as it is always penetrating and does not build up like BLO. Dupage will not ship to Canada so some imagination was needed to acquire them here.

Listen up.

Order a stock from Dean's Gun Restorations. Dean will ship to Canada.

Dean's stocks are worth every penny. They fit perfectly. When you install the stock on your rifle, it will drop in without any fitting or fooling around.

If you buy a stock from Dean and if you don't like it, I will buy it from you.

I think I'll try going with the Dupage first.
I'm in the middle of several different projects at the moment and the Dean's stock that interests me will probably cost close to $1,000 by the time it lands here.

I also cannot find anywhere on Dean's page what is used for either the T-1 or T-2 finish. Tung oil?

Love my Dupage laminated stock. You are right , they don't ship to Canada. Some creative acquisition process comes to mind.

You will see my Dupage stock set at the Sunday 30 November Clinic in Petawawa.

Cheers, Barney.

You will seldom find a drop in fit with a Garand stock, no matter who makes them. They are made to fit a shop rifle or master pattern and will always need some degree of inletting/fitting to a particular rifle if you want to get it right. The Boyds stocks are quite variable in fit from piece to piece. The handguards can be a real b*itch to fit properly. Based on my experience Boyds most probably would not meet QC requirements for a military contract. A poorly fitted stock will impact both accuracy and functionality.

I hope to be sporting a Dupage by then too.
Did you buy a finished or unfinished?

The problem with the finished walnut is that they use BLO as opposed to Tung Oil which I prefer.

Whatever stock you are working with the first thing to do is to install the buttplate. If you are working on a stock w/o the buttplace in place and it slips, chances are that you will take a big chunk out of the butt end when it hits something solid. The more you paid for it, the more you will cry. Don't ask me how I know this.
