lol, nice rifle "rest" :)

Edit: that fence though

How many chome-lined enhanced M1's made by fulton waded ashore at Omaha beach in 1944 again? Or how many were at the Cho-Sin reservoir?

Oh, right... none.

A modern fulton gun is not a collectible and collectibility, not shootability, is what is driving the current (crazy) market.

I paid $1500 for a nice garand a few weeks back, currently that's about the most I'm willing to spend, but many will spend more and that's their prerogative.

It's new shooters and condition that is driving prices, not collectors. Collectors are cheap as hell unless it's that one specific perfect example they are looking for, if it's not that they turn their noses up lol.
I bet you I could get more on the EE for my Excellent condition Dane Breda M1 with near new VAR barrel then you could for that $1500 fair-good M1 you picked up...

Wanstalls had multiple Breda and Beretta Danish contracts Garands last night. 1750 each and they sold in minutes. And yours looks to be in better condition.

Mike, the $1500 gun had some park wear, but the bore gauges 0/0 and looks unfired. I would not rate it F-G. But whatever. I doubt an Italian put-together will sell for original non-refurb usgi money most of the time. Though only a sale guarantees what any rifle is "worth".

Yeah - "something is worth what someone will pay for it." The market decides.

If the Garand hits the restricted list, watch the bottom fall out of the market PDQ.

Nice collection! If you want a cheapish k98 Mauser lever arms had some Russian Captures for $650 I think

I expect the M1 won't hit the restricted list unless they ban all semi-autos. In the 1994 legislation, the M1 was so popular they exempted the 8 round en-bloc clip specifically in legislation because of the uproar it would have cause among military rifle match shooters, hunters, inuit, etc. who were (and still are) using them all over.

Besides, it's not black, it has no pistol grip, it fires a full-power cartridge, typically not in sustained rapid fire. It has no detachable magazine and does not readily take optics. As guns go, it does not have the "evil" look.

Long before they ban the M1, they would ban M14 clones. Which would suck, as I like those just as well. Let's hope they don't, but that idiot who killed police in Moncton with one has likely made it a target.

If I were a betting man, all the NR .223 and 7.62x39 black rifles are at risk to go restricted - stuff like the Bushmaster ACR, BCL102, Tavor, etc. I expect the return of having to call in for an ATT, because they can claim they reversed Harper's "lightening" of gun laws, even though AT's are never refused and are just an excuse to hire bureaucrats.

I expect some other things like longer wait times for restricteds in some provinces (not ontario where it's already like 3 months due to ineptitude). I also suspect they may mandate some form of even more thorough and time consuming background check process for RPAL shooters - not sure if that will mean at RPAL renewal, or at every purchase - who knows?

Sorry for the hijack.

A bit off topic, but Garand related...

My cousin owns guns but has no interest in milsurps.
(OK, he's a Fudd...)
Anyway, he believes Garands are worth almost nothing so thats what he expects to pay.
I told him I would pay him $800 for a decent one.
I didnt tell him they are about double that, I just ask how the search is coming along...

So today I told him about this thread and that Tradex sold out at over $2000.

I think I rattled him a bit...

8 weeks ago when I decided to finally get a M1 I was shocked to see how much the prices had gone up. I actually almost gave up on owning one. Good thing I drink a lot.

Drunk Ian ordered himself one. and sober Ian Pulled off 2 side Jobs to pay for it... we make a great team....

Hahahahaha! LOL!

About 20 years ago Lever Arms brought in the Danish ones.
I got 2 for $150 each, and sold one for what I paid to my buddy.

So, if they have gone up 14-fold over the last 20 years ,where will they be in the next 10 years

"One miiiillion dollars" in my best Mike Meyers voice.

M1 Garands have always cost more than other MILSURPs. I bought an unused Letterkenny arsenal 1969 rebuild in 1977 for $75 as I recall. At the time a No 4 was going for $35 and an M1903 Springfield (always hard to locate in nice shape) for maybe $50. The same relativity applies today. The fact is they aren't making or importing any more of these and the demand continues to be high. The flush of Danish surplus Garands 20 years ago saturated the market and we won't see that again.

I was browsing the CMP forums in the US and it seems that the CMP acquired some 86000 m1 garands from turkey and the Philippenes
Too bad we couldn't get some of them, they are under a $1000 too!
