M1 question?

Also, the milsurp guys will probably know more, and milsurp is the proper forum for M1 questions (both Garand and Carbine).

As for status, the M1 carbine was manufactured with an 18" barrel, making it a restricted firearm. The new ones made by Auto Ordnance have 18.5" barrels, making them non-restricted. There have also been many M1 carbines converted to non-restricted by having the barrel replaced with a longer one.

I have one and It's not a restricted long arm . If you buy one try to find a low ser. # as these used used surplus M1 parts . they started stamping there own slides which had a cracking problem I have seen them priced any where from 200. to 600.
It is also next to impossible to find parts for these .

Try this web site, It has all the info on these firearms .

Hope this helps

dont get a universal they are *&^&, i had one it all it did was jam and they feel really cheap, spend the money and get a better brand

i have an auto ordinance m-1 and im very happy with my question is. is that model with the folding stock restriceted?

From my understanding it is completely legal as long as the barrel length stays the same. I found a place to get the folding stock in the UK. http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/m1-carbine-folding-stock-product,4651,1

And they ship to canada. I had one of these fitted for a airsoft M1 carbine and it looked great after doing the linseed oil process to the stock.

Cheers
