Use this w ww.matweb.com/tools/weightcalculator.aspx to calculate the weight.
If the barrel is say .9" in dia with a .3" dia hole the weight of a 9 inch piece of steel is 1.4436 lbs. So I would say they are pretty close depending on the starting dia and the taper that is not calculated.
