M10x Unboxing

Famae and Swiss Arms are steel guns though, so although arguably it could be conceived as unsightly, there are no concerns from a longevity standpoint, and the potential of a soft material deforming under constant pounding.
If that port looks like that after a few dozen steel cases, what does it look like once you’ve poured 5000 rounds through it?
Does that corner at the rear get rounded off, and does it change the ejection pattern? If it did, does it matter at all?
I suspect none of it will, but only time and rounds down range will tell.

These are not newly manufactured rifles (well the "DMR" version which has a longer barrel and target safety lol compared to our neighbours down south) but Americans have been enjoying these for several years now without and real issues surrounding this "problem".
I have been following the m10x since its inception and no one has ever said anything about having issues and there are plenty of reviews and videos on the web for people to see

I'm currently looking at a Colt Canada C8 that's been heavily used and not one mark on the ejection port. Slight bronze brass markings... that's all. Definitely no chipping on the finish solely from ejecting casings. My other rifles at home are the same, from what I remember. It's surprising- to me- that after a couple hundred rounds the ejection port looks chewed up, that's all.

Said heavily used gun may have been heavily handled and lightly used. My ar has close to 4000 rounds and there is some wear on the finish of the deflector.

As mentioned this pattern happens in swiss arms famaes unless im mistaken some aks as well. And firing steel cased ammo would probably be harder on the finish

3-4 MOA sounds like SKS territory...... hopefully the barrels and action will settle in with more rounds through the gun.
It's a nice looking gun and in the mid to expensive range, I can see where some people wouldn't like the chips.

Im only being picky because this is the most expensive firearm I own. I chose to shell out $2k plus taxes on something that is already chipping away after 10 rounds of brass cased ammo to sight in the scope.

I guess I assumed the anodized aluminum would not chip away so easily, and so noticeably, so quickly. 10 rounds! This was going to be my babied beauty!

That's the beauty of buying surplus or used guns..... someone else has already "de-stressed" or distressed the finish..... :)

Looking at the slow mo footage that was posted you can see the ejection pattern is quite erratic with shells deflecting in all directions.

I thought you had a Colt Canada C8?? Arent those expensive aswell??

In the end its bound to happen in this type rifle as it is close in design to a SAN or Famae rifle

- Average group size with surplus ammo - 4"

- Average group size with commercial ammo - 3"

- Best group with commercial ammo - 2" with Federal Fusion 123 gr SP (but only when loaded and fired 1 round at a time from the magazine)....

What did you use for brands beside the Fed? I have been debating getting one of these, but am wondering how non-milsurp stuff is actually working in them, especially something of better quality.

My 1st range report:

Just got home from the range. Fired 80 rounds of S&B brass cased 124 grain at 50 meters.

This was the best group of the day:

The groups appeared to open up after a few rounds heating up the barrel. After 20 rounds the spread looked very reminiscent of my Type-81 test.... maybe just a touch tighter.

I also had some major magazine issues. I own 11 but only brought 4- 2Magpul and 2 Steel. One was the one that came with it... which had 2 pins in it- and only held 4 rounds.

One of the Magpul ones caused serious jams. I had to remove the charging handle and use a strong allen key to yank open the action to remove the LIVE round. Happened 3 times (I know I know should have known after the second.) Its in the garbage now.

One of the other metals ones would not allow more than 3 rounds without having feeding issues. All in only 1 of the 4 worked fine- it was a Magpul.

The accuracy just is not what I wanted out of this rifle. Its the most expensive rifle I own and I really was hoping for more. When the mags werent causing issues the rifle itself ran fine.

Ultimately, with the cost, the weight, the magazine issues and the accuracy... I will be taking a pass. It will be up on the EE later tonight with full disclosure to read this post.

Seems a bit premature to give up on it after 80 rds of one brand of ammo and some mag issues but that’s just me, I’d give it a couple hundred of a few different brands of ammo before I turf it on the EE and take a loss. What kind of accuracy we're you hoping for out of a x39 semi auto?

I agree. 80 rnds thru it and known mag issues and that's that!?!?

Ohwell I see someone might get some what of a good deal then

Pretty much. Im just not feeling it. Known mag issues? Is that something I missed? Apart from M+M double pinning my mag to 4 rounds?

Based on previous range reports and on my own, I just think for $2k I can get something I like more. Ive been following the Stag Arms introduction and am interested... Im also interested the in FX-9 coming soon.... I think I had really high hopes that I would just love the M10x.... and I dont. So its possibly the first M10x to hit the EE!

Maybe Ill change my mind in the am and take it down. Im possibly going to the range again tomorrow. Time will tell.

Well ya if you know that the rifle is having mags issues why not try other mags you have in hand??

Also I'm more then positive that NS pins the mags but someone people do definitely change their own minds after using them
Its happen to me before aswell

I would actually break it in and see if you can find a brand of ammo it likes to shoot, I have a few rifles that shoot well enough with anything but really shine with the right ammo. My marlin xt22 for example will shoot 3/4”-1” groups at 50yrds with pretty much any bulk ammo, I’ve almost got the 1/2” or less at 50y challenge beat a couple times with cci mini mags or eley match grade ammo. It’s def capable of sub 1/2” groups if I don’t pull a shot lol.

Don’t give up on it yet, really get it out and then you’ll truely know what it can or can’t do.

You're probably right. I really hoped this would just hum right out of the box. I did notice a poi shift when using a bag as mentioned earlier... I couldn't understand why I had to keep adjusting the elevation slightly... not a huge fan of that either. Maybe its just me seeing other new rifles coming in that appear to be better. Appearances can be deceiving though lol.

Honestly, I've had vz58 rifles that were absolutely junk out of the box. Wore them in with about 400 rnds and they never skipped a beat after. Not saying that's how firearms should be but some might need to be worn in for the teething problems to work itself out

My issue.... $2k should not leave me sorting out teething problems.
