M14/305 laminated birch stock

Well they got another order to replace jay's canceled one... I just have to decide on the colour stock I want... I hammered out a price that meets my expections I will have to finish the stock on my own though.

I am going with the unfinished but inleted to there shop gun option its about 200 dollars cheaper then there completly finished option
 
You have lost me here. Who makes this one, what is the model and approx cost shipped to CA?

gnmontey, the stock is made by Boyd's. It's a Pepper Laminate. DMfirearms.com has them for $110 US plus shipping to Canada. If you read back through this threa, it has quite a bit more info...

If you go the DM route, how does one deal with all the missing metal hardware? Also states that it is not inletted for the stock liner... Does that mean you don't need the stock liner or you have to glass bed? I am very interested, but don't want to get in over my head.

I was reading about their fatter NM style/profiled laminated stocks, the ones that DO Not need a liner. YES, you have to glass bed your action INTO their 'profiled liner'. McMillan NM stocks were the same way, we never needed a liner and we had to apply about 1/8" of fiberglass resin, Acraglass, Devcon, MarineTex or whatever you were comfortable working with, yes even JB Weld works well. Hope this explains why these stocks do not need a liner for your action. :D
 
Thanks Holleyman, you convinced me that I should stick to a type 1. Any idea as to where to get one?
 
The oversized National Match profile allowed extra stiffness by increasing the profile / radius of the standard issued USGI walnut/ birch / cherry stock by up to an additional 1/4" fatter, sometimes almost 3/8" all the way around. This dampened all the vibration patterns, all the torquing (real or perceived, since this is debatable and beat around for many years) motion of the bullet acting on the barreled action. Result: A FAT bastard stock whose dimensions were carried over to the McMillan Stock company. They made a shztload of the fat NM profiled stocks out of glass layers and the resulting match stock was heavy and friggin' FAT. STIFF, too !! I've competed with one for years !!

My hand used to get super cramped after shooting a string of 2 sighters and 20 shots for record at 600 yard slow fire stage. :eek: It was truly a fat stock.

I hope this helps clarify things. Do you need one ? Not really unless you are serious about moving up your NRA High Power classification (I'm a lowly Expert Class dude :rolleyes: ).....

I spoke with DM today, it means that the inside portion around the barrel and action are opened up to allow custom bedding compounds to be applied.

this is what Daniel from DM Firearms told me today, when I spoke with him to place an order. I defer to Hungry as the M14 expert, as I am by no means an expert, I'm a Noob.

Which is it (oversize inside or oversize outside)? The last thing I want is a fat stock exterior wise. I was thinking along the lines of USGI proportions only in laminate.

Hungry here: IT's Super FAT around the outside. Imagine a USGI proportion, but another 3/8" of fiberglass layers/meat round the entire stock.

I'd like it a little bigger than the standard USGI contour, with a more vertical grip.

If it's too big, there is always a sander to change the contours. It's much harder to put wood on where you want it.

When you receive your stock can you post some pics with both the Boyds and a Norc stock together so that we can all get a feel for what an "Oversized National Match-Type" is like proportion wise.

And for all you guys following this thread, I just checked my cc bill wrt the Wenig stock I have coming... $539.45 shipped to me. Read back through this thread and you'll see that I ordered a hand fitted, to the shop gun, brown laminated scope stock and handguard, with a 1/2 inch recoil pad installed and a factory original LOP of 13 and 1/4 inches. (I think I remembered everything...)

So, those sitting on the "fence" wrt to the few remaining DMFirearms.com Boyd's Type 2 laminated stock & handguard... You better act.... It's a killer price at $110 US!!!

Keep in mind, that the DMFirearms stock IS NOT for scoped setups, and that's the difference btw the Wenig stock, which is designed and intended to provide the raised area for proper cheek weld when using a scope. Pics will follow when the stocks are recieved, and since I am going with IRON sights, the Wenig stock will more than likely be up for sale. (I'd even consider 308 ammo as a trade...)
