M14/305 Scope

I'm going through the same thing right now. I've got the ARMS mount and an aimpoint but want something with power. Was looking into the Leupold 1.5-5X24mm MR/T as a good close range/midrange scope but I'm a student on a budget. Was also thinking Elcan (because of a sweet deal for one in the for sale forum) but it will not work in my application and I want a variable. Then I got turned on to the IOR-Vladada scopes and can get them in Canada. They have an affordable 1.1-4X26mm CRT illuminated scope with a neat CQB type reticle. I think I am sold. Now I'm waiting for my "prosperity" check from the AB government and gotta sell some stuff to afford it. Check out:

I like the bushnell 3200.

LRC, the nice part of this rifle is just about any scope will work. I have used the Elite 4200 6X24 down to an Isreali Nimrod 6X all with excellent results.

Just depends on what you want to use it for. for sure the Elite 3200 10X is the best bang for the buck but there are new scopes from Nikon, IOR worth a look.

The furthest I went with mine was 600yds at clay pigeon. Hit often enough to be very interesting but certainly no where near as accurate as my bolt rifles. I would say 1 to 1.5 MOA to around 650yds, then as well as you can dope as far as you want to go.

This is a 308 with all its good and bad ballistically. I was shooting the 155gr Amax and had no issue going to 1450yds in another rifle. Wind doping would have to be very good but no worse then what a Palma shooter faces.

I would say 1.5 MOA at 1000yds is most certainly possible with a tuned M305 and proper handloads. I don't think a variable over 4-14X would be necessary given that this is usually shot closer then far.

Damn you all! I got an early M305 with the scope mount points milled off :(. Anyone got a suggestion for a LER dot or pistol scope to mount on the handguard?
- you're not done yet- the old b-square m1a mount( the one without the stripper clip guide replacement ) with the levelling screws works for the ground off types of early m-14 chinese clones- it's not pretty, but it works as well as any of the single hole aluminum mounts- either that or maybe you can put a wedge behind the screw to take up the slop and make it square- i've been toying with putting something like a wad of permatex cold weld on there, pressing the mount into the cold weld while it's still a putty, pulling it off and letting the stuff dry to see how that works- just don't forget to put pam or something on the mount so the putty doesn't stick to the mount

Thanks Jerry:

exactly what I was looking for. so based on these #'s I think a fixed 10X would be my best bet for this rifle. Any objections?

This is what my M14's buddies told me at the range...You're right on the ball for this scope.

I guess the best scope choice would be easier if I had an Idea as to how far this rifle will accurately reach out to. Has anyone hit the 800-1000 mark with these using mil-sup. or is that pushing it?

I shot my TRW M14 at 1000y sucessfully in the 80's The rifle was as issued (CA). I remember having to aim quite high at the time (top of the butt marker) because my scope ran out of elevation adjustments. My present Norinco/USGI M14 sports a Douglas Heavy target barrel, Rooster33 op-spring giude, ARMS18 mount and Bushnell Elite 3200 10X mildot scope. The USGI fibreglass stock is bedded and has a Rooster33 cheek rest. I've shot this rifle successfully out to 600y so far. With the right ammo, you should have no problem shooting out to 1000y :D
