No, there will be no return to the good old days. You will see it come in small batches, but NRCAN is working hard to keep it out of Canada.

I bought 1120 rounds of SA surplus last year on the EE... for $425 SHIPPED!!! WHOOHOO!!!
Sorry to rub it in... .but it does exist!
It's not super accurate stuff, but I just use it for banging away in my M14 anyway.
SA .223 is also good, but I'm down to my last 1000 rounds. I bought it at Milarm in 2001 for $200/1000

surplus is great for making noise and mabey hitting the target. Reload your own ammo and then you'll really see the accuracy of these rifles
but there is Billions of it in china ..... and lots in the Balkans......
but by the death of a thouand cuts reality we live in...... the supply of ammo into canada has been choked off by those who can manipulate such things.
even with the almighty pull of John at Marstar......... we still don't have crates of chinese 7.62x51. we can buy the rifles till we are blue in the face and broke...... but no ammo.
not John or any oher dealers fault.... I know they are trying

May i ask if you know of any particulars about who/which position of power at NRCAN is responsible for the such delays... is the problem within the ERD itself or is a higher authority involved... is this a matter of someone interpreting policy in a restrictive manner? Any thoughts on where we might apply some political pressure?!
I understood the problem was transporting the stuff here by sea/dangerous cargo issues...
This issue, more than most others concerning firearms in Canada right now strikes a nerve with me and my wallet.

it bothers me that we are exerting so much political will and donations to CSSA and NFA to save further restrictions of our use of firearms, yet none of them seem to be addressing the ammo issue, at least not that i'm aware of.

I'd like to hear if our firearms orgs or our ammo bulk dealers are exerting political pressure on those who would restrict our lawfull use of ammo. There is ZERO point in bringing any more guns into this country if the folks doing so aren't going to work equally as hard to get us ammo for said guns at reasonable prices..... and i don't see .75 to 1.00 per round as a reasonable price.
it's like buying a car that has all kinds of hype behind it ...... and not being able to buy gas to run the car. The auto dealers lobby to ensure you can buy gas/deisel what ever..... time for us to start working this ammo issue out.

I either read in a thread or was talking to someone who gave me this reason: China can't ship ammo here because there is a rule that says there must be an alternate port available and since Vancouver is the only West Coast port (you can't include Seattle because the US will not allow any ammo from China period and I assume Prince Rupert doesn't count) we're SOL. I think the East Coast could accept it but the shipping costs would a lot higher. Anyways maybe I'm in dream land and someone else can comment on this.

well , Vancouver area actually has THREE ports....... one being Vancouver docks , the other being Fraser Surrey Docks and lastly, Delta Port ........ problem is all the folks that actually own them are americans LOL...... oh, except delta port is owned by the ontario teacher's federation pension fund...... not kidding
the story explained to me was that the countries with the ammo now need a certain liscence, or now must renew said liscence , before they can have thier product approved...... tell that to China.....i can see it now....... they'll just say screw you , you can't have our ammo if we have to sign some silly little liscence everytime there is an export.
maybe i have it wrong too....... still ..... with all the talk of preserving our gun ownership, fighting for the T97 reclassification fiasco, and all the attention we pay towards protecting our guns by voting for certain parties ......... where is the push to get our ammo accessabilty.........
Let's face it, the EASIEST way for the powers that be that are working against us to screw with us is on the ammo end of things. IT MAKES NO SENSE that we can import container after container of 7.62 x 39...... arguably the most common round used by terrorists and paramilitary organizations around the globe............. but we can't get several dozen containers of 7.62 x 51 ...... to me it is a ridiculous situation.
I am in NO WAY meaning to slight or point fingers at our ammo dealers.... what I post is just my own frustration with the issue.... and the reason I don't own a mess of guns like most folks I hang out with.
I realize it won't be produced in the quantities it use to. What do you consider to be 'General use'? I know the Canadian forces use the 7.62 NATO in their C6 machine gun and the US military uses it in the M240 for example.

I've heard rumour that the USA outsources their small arms ammo sometimes. Is there now some kind of universal rule that no more 7.62 NATO milsurp cannot be sold on the open market now?

Yes, we make ours here, we also import sometimes, as does the US. The Us buys from Taiwan, Korea, Canada, and Israel.
