M14//308 win/12 shotgun slugs not good for moose?

Kill a couple of deers and one moose with my 308 rfb, shot the moose at 300+ yards with 168 gr. Win. Silvertip and she went about 10 feets and dropped.

If you can take the weight of the m14 and get it to shoot accurately I day go for it! My m14 has ben my backup gun on hunts many times.

Just stay away from anything over 168 gr. and Hornady superformance as they are to hot for the m14.

Sound advise

308 is more than enough. Shot placement and bullet selection will be a more decisive factor than case capacity/powder charge.

My very first moose I shot I seen it at close too a mile away walking across a cut ,, I walked down there thinking I would find out where they crossed and sit there the next day or so ,, I walked down there not even trying too be quite .. or sneaking down there .. I walked into a marsh and two moose were standing there looking at me .. I had a 30-06 at the time and killed the bull with one shot .. a 308 or 270 or what ever would have done just fine.. But sometimes you are better off with a gun with more legs for sure .. I now take two guns / a 300 and a 338 .. they will kill a moose at 100 yards or like the last two at 250 yards .. the drive up north is so far that I want the most gun you can shoot and not flinch.. as stated just above this it seems most people want too use the very least gun they can get away with.. There is only one degree of dead .. so why not use the best you have . I have retrieved a few moose from some very rough terrain so I want too kill that sucker right where he is and not another hundred yards into the blow downs LOL

308's fine. Hell, i know a guy who killed a nice bull with a few .410 slugs. You're good to go with your M14. Guy's are saying it's not the greatest gun to use because it's a heavy ##### and not as accurate as a bolt gun. Not because it won't do the job well. If that's all you got, just make sure you shoot it enough to be deadly with it, that's all.

As long as you get ~900ft lbs or better at the max distance you will shoot at and can hit an 8" pie plate 100% of the time I'd say you are golden.

YMMV
