M14 accuracy -wow

Borrowed my frind's M14 - he put together nice rig, very sweet. Good stuff, Skimoe! We have hunter shoot tomorrow and I was in this little town with no centrefire gun, so this M14 will be competing with bolt guns tomorrow. There will be 200 bench rest, and 20 to 100 yards shots in different positions. Anyways, I just sighted it in with Hornady's factory loaded 150 grainers soft point ammo. At 100 yards holes are about 3'4" apart (2-hole groups) - I have only 2 boxes and had to sight in with minimum shots. One shot (verifier) was anout 0.5" from center of target. 200 yard 3-shot group was about 2.5 inches across. That was all I could do today, altogether about 14 shots the whole deal, I need a few sighting (warming) shots for tomorrow.

I noticed POI walk away with changes in barel temperature, at least 2" from cold to warm barrel vertically. Not a big deal, for hunting I would sight in on a cold barrel thats all.

I am really impressed with accuracy, can't wait to get my M14 finally.

you'll run into rifles that group like that everywhere, esp if there's been a ot of care assembling, and/or load development- there's a reason why there's a national version of the m14 and why there were used in major competitions a few years back- one of my isrealis would put the whole 20 round mag into a 1 inch or smaller group a few years back using my hunting ammo, a harris bipod and a 4x12x40, but that's off a bench
