What kind of groups are you guys getting at 100 and 200 yards with these rifles??? I'm thinking of buying one but im a little unsure, a rifle means nothing to me if it is not reliable and accurate. Also what stock do you guys feel is best ??? so far im looking at the troy, JAE and the one from Marstar.

There is plenty of info on this forum if you search around. The consensus is that they differ usually from 1-3 inches out of the box at 100 yards. If you search there are multiple methods of acurization. I'm more of a walnut kind of guy, just for looks.

I like wood as material in general but I think the best one for the M14 in regards to value, resale and looks is the polymer one (which I have). Very easy to shoot with not much recoil, 1 inch apart or closer from 100 yards.

I haven't put a lot of rounds through yet, but was hitting skeet (stationary:)) at 200 yards no problem.

This was mine at 200m and yes, that was with a scope. Once there tuned up they can be very accurate for a semi auto. It measured just under 2 inches.

Hungry here: That WTF shot is easily corrected by careful tweaking and glass bedding the barreled reciever into the / a good stock (read: burn the witch...the chu wood stock I mean). Nice group!

I have had bedded M14's in the past, run two sage stocks, one troy and have come back to the usgi fiberglass stocks for my guns.

Before spending a grand or more on an aftermarket stock do this first in order and check accuracy after each mod.

- USGI glass stock ($100-150)
- Shoot different brands of ammo.
- Unitize the gas system (tig, shim or screws). ($20-70)
- Ream FS to NM specs. ($75)
- NM spring guide ($40)
- NM rear sight aperture .595 ($50)
- USGI Bolt ($300-350)

I know the usgi bolt is very hard to find, but by the time you get to the spring guide your rifle should shoot very nice, and you'll have only spent around $300 bucks.

All of mine will punch through a fig 11 all day up to 400m (damn mountain is in my way after that )
What is group size at 400? Minute of torso:D

My experience has shown I get results from 1.5 to 4" at 100 yards, depending on the ammo. Standard, inexpensive, Federal vital shok 308 150 grain gives me 1.5" 5 shot groups. Handloads might improve on this, but I've not tried any yet. Milsurp 7.62 doesn't shoot as accurately in mine as 308.

I have generally found that once I get under 2" groups at 100m I can't reliably improve the situation.

However, I have generally been able to get my M14s to CONSISTENTLY group around that size, which I think is pretty good.

I like to put a lot of bullets in the target to establish the group. Anyone can launch 3 bullets and fluke a sub-moa group. It is not possible to fluke a 2", 50 shot group! Even 10 shots is starting to give you a very good idea of what is happening out there. But 3 shots is just guessing...if you don't believe me, lock a rifle down in a rest and fire 20 rounds. I guarantee that at least 3 holes will be touching! If you shot those three in a sequence and nothing else, you would think you had a 1/2 MOA gun. But when you run the other 17 through, your real group becomes apparent, and if you can keep that group to 2 inches, you are doing pretty well IMO.

So I would say 2" or under is pretty damn accurate for one of these. But then I am talking about ACTUAL accuracy, not e-groups!

One problem with 2 MOA guns is that they are not as accurate as what a lot of internet shooters own. Most e-guns are sub-MOA, which makes a true, real life 2 MOA gun seem kind of lousy.

But remember that an e-gun is measured differently than a real gun...a 1/2 MOA e-gun is roughly equivalent to a 6 MOA r-gun.

Yeah but I'm an honest e-guy so when I say my reloads are at the very best 1,25MOA I mean it!

It can be frustrating to compare your typical group to someone's "best" group. I'm still trying to get my heavy bbl ar-15 to live up to my possibly misguided expectations.

it's been my experience that certain rifles will group tighter once they're de- foulled and warmed up- this is something that the stupid 5 shot rule doesn't allow- with the 20 round mag, you could do a warm- up and group WITHOUT changing mags and re-setting yourself and the rifle- with 5 rounds, there's varibles that enter every time you change mags

Having an M14 that shoots MOA or close to it is nice but not really that important in a military semi auto.
If you like to shoot for groupings while supported from a benchrest this is all fine and good, nothing wrong with that.
But you should remember that a service rifle of this type was intended to be shot unsupported, down in the dirt, from the prone, sitting and kneeling position.
When shot like this center of mass is what counts and because of the excellent peep sights with 26" sight radius, i can attest the M14 type rifle delivers at 400, 500, even 600m with irons and some basic mods. Scope that puppy and no shillouette target will stand a chance:D.

For the accuracy I want and the money I'll spend in mods would I just be better with a Ar 10...Like that new Remington
