I recently stripped, cleaned and greased my new Norc M305. I can't tell if I'm just being paranoid or if I'm doing something wrong. I'm new to this platform so bare with me...

When I #### it and pull the trigger I can see the top "arms", I'll call them, come up and hit the rear of the bolt through the slot that the op rod rides on and when I try to re-#### it It's extremely hard to rack the op rod handle. Does this sound like I installed the trigger group wrong?!?! I didn't think you could install it wrong...but I could screw anything up haha. I would really like to test this thing TM but I'm kind of nervous to be honest...lol.

Help me CGN!

Before somebody tells you the same....
ship the gun to me at your expense !
I will take good care of it.
I will check everything for you!
I will even clean it with the dishwasher method.
No Joke...you will be amazed of the result!!!

I read that post but sometimes It's hard to picture that stuff...I'm a visual learner. I guess it's the same as when I first un-boxed it, just paranoid after having it apart I suppose.

Thank you, just wanted to be safer than sorry-er!

haha I appreciate the offer but It's all cleaned and greased now. Just going to do a test session and sight it in TM then all my goodies that I've been collecting are going on.

As others have said read the stickies , lots of info there.
When you #### the weapon the hammer is is held in place by the hooks you see in the pic.It will be easy the second time you #### it if you dont pull the trigger in between.Check out the stickies on the lubrication of the trigger group and on the trigger test after assembly / slam fires.

Welcome to a great waste of time and money....lol

haha I read the M14 Owners guide and the Complete Assembly guide and that picture was better than both for that explanation lol thanks.

OK, now I have a new issue. After trying the "test after assembly" procedure, with the hammer locked to the rear my safety will not move to the ON position..........

No, hammer is down, bolt is fully forward. When you rack the action and let it slam into battery the hammer should then be cocked and then the safety should be engaged, correct? In that position the safety will not move rearward.

Sounds like you may just have to push harder on it , These are normally pretty stiff but will loosen up .If it still wont go on take the trigger mech out and see if the safety will go on...you may have to push pretty hard, once you get it to go on work it back and forth a couple bizillion times.
When you did the trigger test....did you do the following ?

Hold the trigger in and #### the action and allow the bolt to go forward while still holding the trigger in. Watch for the hammer not following the bolt. The hammer is supposed to stay down if you #### the action with the trigger squeezed. ....then when you release the trigger you should hear a click.....Then squeeze the trigger and it should fire.

I had it out to clean and oil it and it wouldn't move then either...I guess I'm just spoiled, too used to my beautiful Browning lol I just have to treat it like the guards treated the people they had at gunpoint that assembled this rifle! Ill pop it out again and try to free it up. Thanks for taking the time to help me out with this...CGN ROCKS!

Actually it was the High School shop class at arsenal 356 ;)

Put it in a vice with the trigger facing up. Tape the trigger guard up out of the way, put a screwdriver through the hole in the safety and grab the screwdriver on both sides of the saftey .....work it back and forth like you are mad at it ...lol

Yes as you discribed after cocking the action and allowing the bolt back in to battery the hammer will remain locked back. You should then be able to engage the safety. I know with my 2007 when it was brand new the safety was really tough to engage. What I did is disassemble the trigger group from the rifle, lock the hammer back and play with the safety forward and backwards to "break it in slightly" apply some CLP or lubricant to the mechanism and it should be much better. There may still be rough edges from machining.

The thing I like about the M-14 platform so much is like the Grande they were designed to operate in the horribly dirty conditions of war with sub prime ammo and every buddy and there conscripted mother pulling them apart and putting them together. If your being carful and following instructions, you already have a good step ahead Battlefeild conditions.

Soo...I took my trigger group out and got my safety to engage. It operates as it should but you guys were right...it's tighter than a ..yeah, it's tight. Going to take some real range time to brake this thing in..man it feels gritty and TIGHT! First impressions of this rifle are... cautiously optimistic. And that's being optimistic lol. I might have been just a wee bit stingy with the grease. Think I'll disassemble and do it again.

While you have the trigger group out put the slightest pressure down on the hammer when trying to engage the safety. Much easier and it will get you over that initial sharp break. After a while that sharp break will wear down and it will be easier. Then cycle the safety many times without the down pressure to smooth things out.

I cleaned the oil off with brake cleaner before doing this and was thinking if I was brave I would put some lapping compound at the right spot to speed things along.
But I'm not brave so I didn't.

This rifle wasn't made to be babied. You have to operate this rifle like a diesel mechanic tearing apart a semi truck engine. Put some backbone into it :D

Once you get past the "shiny new rifle, baby the heck out of it" syndrome, you'll be alright. Kinda reminds me of 'new cat owners'. A person will get a new cat and the first week will FREAK OUT wondering if the cat got out or is lost somewhere. Trust me, the cat is perfectly fine in some hole or pertch watching you freak out and laughing at you. The rifle is doing the same as you try to baby it

I went through the same thing as you, brother. Nothing to worry about. You are just re-cocking it. Test it. Make sure it's uloaded (have to say that) and clear, rack it, it will be difficult, right? Without pulling the trigger rack it again. You'll see the difference.

Cheerios!

Just got back from the first range trip...or should I say Boner City. Not one issue to speak of...actually, I was blown away with how close the sights were to being bang on...and much of the recoil the M14 soaks up (not that the .308 has a big kick, but my BLR feels like a freight train compared to this thing). Anyway, all is well and the safety is able to be engaged without the use of a mallet or profanity now. Learning curve with this gun, but I am now hooked...I can see where this is going to be an expensive pig to feed......

Thanks for all the help fellas.
