M14 Barrel in 260 Remington

LOL Hungry... You always make me grin :D
I agree, a heavy barreled shorty M14 would be kick ass in any do-able calibre.
I'm curious about pricing for a custom barrel made by any canadian outfit.
I "really, really" want a .338 federal M14 shorty and one day.... I'll have one :D

What i do want this rifle to do, is have good ballistics out to 800+ with 1 to 1.5 moa capability, better if i can get it. Would be nice if i could do it from a GI contour. Lighter weight that way.

Is that all you want out of it? ;) Seriously though, that thing looks like a lot of fun.

So have these guys from Herron come up with new calibre barrels or what? Anyone built anything to date???

I'm gonna wait till he does his first one. Everything I have read says they are hard to make because of all the timing of the parts. Thinking of the man hours needed, I don't want to end up paying a grand or two for a new barrel.

If they come in around $500 for the barrel and headspaceing the bolt, Im in.

Lots of people install their own barrels. With a custom one there may be some fitting to do by the manufacturer.

I wasn't clear on my question, it wasn't if I personally could install it (which I wouldn't likely do in this case), but rather if there is any reason I couldn't use a Norc M305 as the donor and have a .260 Remington barrel installed on it.

Nno problem they used to make a few different 308 based calibers 7-08 243 barrels.

Nowadays yud be pretty lucky to find an original barrel. All are pretty much custom made.

Any 308 based cartridge will do

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know. If I get a barrel it will be one of the Herron Arms ones, I want a match quality barrel in a better long range chambering than .308 and the .260 fills that bill admirably.

This thread hasn't had a post since January but we have not forgotten about this project in fact we are looking at a production run which would reduce the cost over one offs
We need to choose a profile and length that will appeal to the masses as a first run, which will be 260 Rem and a few 7mm.
Maybe a poll is in order?

A poll would be good. What are the choices for profile? Is length something easy to tweak? I am thinking you could make them 24" (or whatever the longest request is) and then simply cut and recrown if someone wants one shorter. Is that feasible?

I do have all the parts now just need to send out to have it built. I've been super busy lately and put more than one project aside unfortunately.
