Hey guys,

Is there anything wrong with mounting a sluing swivel for a bipod on the front "hole" in the stock of my 14? I know harris sells a mount that goes into that spot but from my understanding thats for gas to escape.

If thats not a good spot, where you can guys recommend getting a bipod mount for the front sling plate?

Thank ya'll

take a look at the stickies- it's been covered numerous times- where u want to mount the bipod is in the drain hole, used for letting water escape from the rifle- it JUST HAPPENS to line up with the gas piston junction- the more "accepted" way is to drill out one of the forward sling rivets and put in a sling swivel stud and t-nut , epoxy the works so it wont move , and mount your bipod to that

The Sadlak mounting rail works great. The rail is a more solid mount for the bipod than just a sling stud. Used one on my m14, worked great.

you want that drain hole open in case you have a head separation- I speak from experience- mine was plugged by he bipod, and when the the head separated, it split the stock, blew the magazine into 3 pieces and locked the bolt back- it took an awful lot of effort to get the bolt to release, and some hammering- as it was , it didn't set the locking lugs back but it's the kind of thing I don't want to do 2x- had that vent hole been open, it might have been a different harmless story
besides, you shouldn't be exerting that much pressure on the bipod anyway
