OK two things...

1. Can you guys help me with a walk through on how to assemble my bolt? I had it taken apart for finishing work and now that the finish is dry I need to re-assemble it.

2. I lost the extractor spring plunger, any ideas on where I can find one?

Just find an empty 30-06 cartridge case and grind the rim off on one side. Chamber the case with the ground away side situated to allow the extractor to be inserted.
Push your bolt forward to depress the ejector. Make sure the notch on the ejector aligns with the extractor pin hole.
Hold back the extractor spring and plunger with a slim screwdriver and insert the extractor, pushing the screwdriver away in the process.
Tap the extractor down with a brass punch to insure it is seated all the way.

It will help if you have a buddy supply a third hand ;-) A few spare extractor springs and plungers will come in handy.

I used the smooth end of a drill bit ,inserted from the bottom of the bolt where the extractor goes, to hold the ejector in place while I fiddled with the extractor and spring plunger to get it in. Doing it that way, I only needed 3 hands instead of 5 trying to do everything at once.

x 2 on this one. I also use a soft cloth in case something slips, then the springs...sproing into the cloth (real technical...eh?!? :p). I secure the bolt in a vise (gently of course) between two pieces of soft wood. Notching/grinding sown the 30-06 or 308 casing is very important, otherwise you will be in for hours of cussing.

Good luck . my ejector & extractor blew out at the range. Found the parts but was ready to saw my head off by the time I got it reassembled. Now I own the tool & life is much less stressfull!!

use the cleaning rod handle that came with the m305--the screwdriver tip with the 2 cutouts is the assembly disassembly tool,

do it on an old workbench u don't mind gouging or a big block of wood in a room where flying parts won't get lost(empty room?)

place all parts back in bolt,plunger/spring first, ejector 2nd with cutout facing
toward hole for ejector(don't push all the way in yet),firing pin third.

now gently place ejector in it's place and turn bolt upside down so ejector is
lightly resting on bench or block of wood.

now using the cleaning rod handle, place screwdriver tip so it is touching the
top of the extractor while slowly and gently pushing ejector in with cutout on tool.

when the tool is pushed all the way in to touch the bolt face (thus compressing the ejector) twist handle of assembly tool counter clockwise while @ the same time pushing down onto the workbench.you will hear a load click--voila done.

I'm gonna need a video of that:confused:

it's a lot easier done than said.
i've disassembled and reassembled both garand and m305 bolts many many times.i've used a real m14 us made handle/tool but the norinco one should be the same.to disassemble,so easy.

place bolt on workbench facing you so a part will hit u if it flies out.
grab bolt with dryhand and a firm grip on bolt.
push handle so cutout is pushing on ejector and screwdriver tip is under extractor.very very VERY slowly twist clockwise -- don't pull away from bolt or twist wildly.

everthing will slowly come apart...

i\ll see if i can get a vid up if there is interest within the next couple of days...

I believe this is the tool you mentioned, and we dont get one with the Chinese m-305 . I think it is a Garand tool isnt it. I have read about using it to disassemble a bolt but havnt seen it done yet ,

Look at the sticky up top FAQ,tips and click on the stripping/assembling in Skullboys post,he has a pictorial using the multi tool that comes with the gun to disassemble the bolt.....

Getting the stinker apart isn't a problem. Getting it back together is!

Yes that is a Garand tool. The USGI M14 tool looks just like the Chinese M14 tool. The only real difference between the latter is the wrench size for the gas plug, which itself should be hand tight.

Both units can be used to disassemble the bolt quite easily but the Garand tool works with the bolt in the receiver. ie you put the brush into the chamber, push the bolt forward, lift the lever on the tool while bolt is pushed forward and engaged in the tool, the extractor will be lifted up.

Using the various methods out there which utilize either the garand tool, the 30-06 case method, ect... All require the "third hand" and there is a huge risk of losing detents and springs as they go shooting off into the room.

Save yourself the headache, there are purpose built M14 bolt disassembly/assembly tools availlable. brownells or an excellent canadian made bolt tool can be sourced by sending a p.m. To Gothmog.

$65 tools are OK if you do this all the time (gunsmiths, hardcore enthusiats, etc.). If not, drape a towel over the bolt and use the .30-06 casing method. That's my $.02 worth.
