M14 Bolt stop roll pin specs

Hey all, I am just hunting through my parts bin for a new roll pin for the bolt stop...a

Anybody have the diameter/length for those handy? I have about two hundred roll pins in front of me here and would rather measure than test fit each one!

I used to replace mine with little sections of drill rod but apparently one I did has stopped holding on properly and obviously that needs to be replaced before the gun is shootable...

Well I guess technically it can be shot without the bolt stop but the bolt wouldn't stop on an empty mag then!
 
After a bit of screwing around the measurement I came up with looked about like 3/32x1"

I have some GI pins but they got mixed in with my other pins...I just wanted to ensure that I am forwarding an actual GI pin (not that it makes any real difference, but I had the go-fast pin so I thought I might as well send it).
 
Be careful here ... a pin too large can cause the "ears" on a Sproingfield cast receiver to break off during installation.
This is a known issue with the Springfields, but should not be as critical with the FORGED Norc receivers.

Also, too large diameter roll pins will bind too the bolt stop, causing poor rotation. This is especially apparent with the Rooster aftermarket bolt stop, which has a slightly smaller ID in the hole than the Norc part it replaces.

Makes sense...IIRC my Rooster stop took about 60-80 rounds to loosen up on the first M14 that wore it.

I then had it on my folder which had a drill rod pin, but apparently the rod is no longer holding. I am somewhat confused by this as it stayed in for at least 200 rounds for me, but I am thinking possibly the last shooting session I had with the gun resulted in me heating the receiver sufficiently to kill the blue loctite that was on it? I never thought to inspect the pin before shipping it off because it had never had any issues.

I am not sure about that went down but at any rate apparently it popped out so I have sent a fresh roll pin to the guy who bought the rifle. Maybe I will mention to him to rub a bit of fine sandpaper on the center of the pin before putting it in place just to make the R33 stop break in period shorter?

I have tapped in a lot of roll pins over the years with different machines so now I am wondering...is there anything in particular a guy should be told if he has not installed one before?
 
put tape down on the receiver before whacking the roll pin in or out ...
otherwise you probably will get marks on the receiver instead of the tape.
