Hey there , i just had a question regarding something i found during a quick inspection before i was going to the range .

I think it was last saturday , i picked up my rifle opened the action to check to see if the grease i am using is still holding up , which it was just fine , i noticed some weird golding on the bolt face and a gold tinge inside my chamber .

Turns out when i took a quick swab of the substance with my friendly q tip , it was a combination of very small brass particles and burnt powder . it was inside the chamber and on my bolt face almost pooling near the extractor . I dont use any lubricant inside the chamber as it says not to and i take care to remove any when cleaning immediately . There was also no lube on the bolt face . Also the brass seems to be coming out with the same slight residue on it just enough that i can feel it on my fingers and appears to be taking quite a beating after its ejected. Basically slight scratches and some minor marring .

Is this a cause for concern ? does this mean my brass is not form firing to my chamber correctly ?

"...a cause for concern..." Nope. All rifles do it. It's just tiny bits of the case head being scratched off by the extractor. Normal cleaning removes it. You should be regreasing after cleaning too.

What is basically happening is your sandblasted and parkerized magazine acts like sandpaper on the casing and brass dust ends up in the chamber as a result. It's harmless. Heck you swab your bore with copper every trigger pull and brass is even softer ;)

I agree with all of the above, don't panic hehehe
fragments of brass are bad and this is why i periodically check fired brass for primer piercing as we have seen many bolts with stuck firing pins due to the occasional pierced primer.

in this instance, it's nothin to worry about, brass dust is caused by all the stuff mentioned above..... and these rifles are hard on brass....

Alright cool , thats good to know just wanted to make sure because its a new rifle and if it was a problem starting i would be able to take care of early instead of putting it off lol.

You say the magazine acts like sandpaper from the finish on it , what if i took the park off and then repaint it with a gloss paint , would this make it easier on the brass ?
