Watched a M14 dissasembly video the other day.

Could not get the trigger guard open by hand as it says to do in the manual. (thanks for telling me to use the tool like in the video Norinco!)

Couldn't help but notice that after it was reassembled in the video the M14 (being demonstrated on, not mine) action could be worked with minimal fuss.

Mine is nothing like that, it is extremely difficult to work the action. It has never been fired.

Is this normal?

You have to #### it first - then open the guard

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I can disassemble the M14 just fine.

The OP-ROD is tough to actuate/use/move/pull/action/etc at all times.

Nothing like working the action of any other firearm I have ever used, but this is my first time using a M14 as I bought one without ever shooting one before.

Is the op rod track and the inside grooves greased well as well as the bolt becuase these like grease on the sliding parts .

It should be a little more stiff the first time you #### it to move the hammer back into position

My norinco was very stiff at first as well, compared to my sks and so on, so stiff i was to the point where I was also looking on the forums to see if it was normal...long story short it is normal and after you fired a few hundred rounds through it it'll loosen up a bit, you'll just get used to the stiffer action. This is assuming you were just being a pansy like me haha

Is it stiffer now than it was before you disassembled and reassembled? If so I'd take a closer look at things and if your still unsure get it checked by a pro

I was content with ny Norcs action until I played with a new Springfield Scout16 last week in Montana. The Springfield was smooth as silk in comparison.

one of the first things we used to do with the m14 if the op-rod was hard to operate( as in i need to wang on this thing to get it to work) was to strip it out of the stock and see if that was any better- that told you whether it was the action or whether it was the way the stock fit- some of these new ones have a terrible stock fit, even for chinese
this is assuming you have removed the magazine, of course- then that bolt should come forward like an express train
