Hey All,

I am in the process of having my M14 done up (as mentioned in a previous post), and I wanted to ask if anyone could give their 2 cents on cheek risers.

My girl will be sitting in a glass-bedded USGI walnut stock, and I am considering mounting a cheek riser, but am unsure of which options to look at. I do not want to mess up the new stock with some cheap design, I don't want something that folks have found to be just s*&t; and I don't want something that just looks cool but doesn't "work". Therefore, I would like to hear from the "seasoned" M14 owners on here (you know who you are!) to gather information on what works, what you think is the best; and even those who might vote for the odd/unusual. To sum it all up, let's hear what those who have tried the different options have to say.

Thanks again for any and all help with my "new baby in progress" :)

A leather one might work for you and would look good on your walnut stock,

Build up your cheek, not the rifle! That way every gun is set!

No, seriously, I've got an idea I like. Look on Fabsports site at the caa-acp riser. I'm going to mount a small bit of rail on my m305 and that way I can cleanly remove it or move in to other rifles. Honestly, I bought a Boyds pepper laminant stock, and I love the look without the riser; so clean. That way I can have my cake and eat it too.

I like the strap on type as opposed to the screw on type.
I rock the smith enterprise cheek pad on my scoped m14.
:agree:
But the Can-down 1 does have a certain nostalgic aura about it. If I was allowed 1 day to have the real deal this 1 would definitely have to be on her.

I think most people just lace them on the older picture with the screw suggestion was more to show what it looks like as a cheek piece...

It would put a permanent alteration into your nice stock, but I have the cheek riser made by TAC-PRO and have found it to be excellent, providing lightweight functionality due to its kydex construction and is fully adjustable for height and slant.

I use the Rooster33 riser on my fiberglass stock, but if the stock was walnut, I'd go with a strapped or laced type. Seems more appropriate to wood.

When John finally gets around to finishing his buy of the Fred's M14 stocks stockpile and importing affordable USGI wood stocks, I will definitely be buying one or two and going this route. I might have to buy ANOTHER M14 just to put in the stocks... lol. Though I have one too many already.

blackhawk velcro was one easy setup and now i havent had the want for anything else. put a few cut up rags under it, raising it bout 3/4 inch and never had an issue

Thanks for all the replies. I think I have made up my mind in that I am going to go with a lace up style riser for my rifle. I just can't allow myself to have the beautiful wood stock damaged by screwing into it in order to mount a "luxury". Now to choose.......

I just got this one yesterday in the mail and it is pretty awesome. I'm going to screw it into the stock at some point though. It has 2 holes for screws to go in. It's the leather M1D cheek rest.

That's a nice looking set up you have there David. Just out of curiosity, how do you find the eye relief for your scope mounted on the UTG tri rail? I had one mounted on mine, but could not get it to a place which offered me suitable eye relief. I am going to sell my UTG tri rail now as for myself, it only offers look cool factor; I can't actually use a scope on it :(

Thanks for your reply though; where did you say you ordered your riser from?

Not sure where Dave got his but these guys have pretty good reproduction leather,

Slug what kind of scope did you try? Was it a long eye relief scope?

The web site above also sells a regular mount and rings(look under hardware) if you want to set up a non scout type scope above the receiver.

I haven't tried it yet but it seems pretty solid...

If you are having that big of an issue why not try the NEA scope mount to close the distance;

Or get an LaRue Extened SPR like I did;

Thanks for the site, I'll check it out for sure.

It was a Bushnell 3-9x40 that I tried on my UTG Tri Rail with less than satisfactory results for me.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've since picked up an ARMS 18 mount that my M14 will be wearing now ;)

If you are using a "scout" mounting position you need a "scout" scope with longer eye relief.

Regular scope won't do it as you found out.

The Arms 18 is a good choice.

The scope is a Leupold Scout so the eye relief is no problem at all. Get a long eye relief scope if you want, it's pretty cool and you can still use stripper clips.

I bought my cheekpad from IMA=USA. It's the M1D Garand cheekpad.
