M14 Clinic-Owen Sound Re-scheduled to 15 SEP 2012

Home and unpacking the vehicle (I mean the Amnesty Toyota). Well didja learn anything new?

Sound off what you learned! I'm just happy to be of service to you all! Especially for the ridiculously sky high price of $ 35 per day! :D

Barney: Both SoBored and I attended the Barrie clinic 2 years ago.

We attended this one because we laughed (groaned?) so much at the first clinic due to your stale corny jokes, that we had to attend today in order to learn what we missed the first time!:p

I learned that I want a shorty 305. My God those guns look and handle nice. I may end up doing what Hungry has been saying for years and getting a second M14. That'll keep my #### from falling off.

It was neat to reduce the amount of shims a clinic needs. About two years ago we would have needed about 60 shims for those 20 attendees, this time, what did we use, 8 or so?

It was looking pretty grim for a couple of rifles at times but things all worked out in the end. Take THAT Chinese welders! :p

Glad you called the clinic Rule303 and thanks for doing what you do Hungry.

But now, an honest after action report...

A full day jam-packed with tid-bits of Barney's experience having done, at his count, 55 clinics.

Coverage of tools to get, tools not to get. Stripping, assembling, lubrication, type of grease to use, must-have manuals, go-no go specs for headspacing, and more.

After lunch came the hammering-off-of-flash-hider ritual with severe admonition to remove the grub screw first. Then followed the swap party, where we all traded our gas rings with each other to find the ideal lock. That worked well. This was a distinct change from the stamping out of shims and adding them according to deviation from 6 o'clock.

Some of us had "Oh, sh!t!" problems...all of which were resolved thanks to Barney's guidance and advice. No-one went home with an unsolved problem.

Due to the lack of a suitable vise, no barrel indexing could take place.

Last item of business was a CQB drill demonstration and practical application.

Due to a possible life-style change, which Barney may or may not divulge, there is a possibility that this might be the last of the M14 clinics.

Herewith my report.

Glad you two enjoyed yourselves. After the one in Barrie with you guys I have been to 2 more...the jokes dont get any better ..LOL
Great learning experience everytime.

I too attend the Barrie Clinic and this one. There is always some new information plus the chance to get Hungry's opinion on something you have done to your rifle since the last clinic. Doing the gas assembly lock exchange is a good idea when you have a critical mass of Norinco's in one place.
It is well worth it too, to experience Hungry's positive outlook on life and to hear where the #### falling off thing came from. It is kind of inspiring.
Thanks Hungry for your time, experience, honesty, attitude and outlook on life. You give folks who attend a lift.

hey Cancer:

What the fornication? I was right in YOUR Backyard! We had a great time. I'm kinda exhausted after laughing lots and lots. All of you guyz are a hoot!

Cheers,
Barney

Had an awesome time today and I think I learned a lot! Glad I made notes and took pictures so I can try and keep track of the wealth of knowledge that was shared!

Happy to find I lucked out and got a tight rifle off the line, nothing rattled or moved, and if it starts to do so,I have a much better idea of how to tighten her up now.

Just ordered an op rod guide, so the addiction continues, I hope everyone had a safe trip home!

All the best and thanks to hungry for a great day!!

I had a great time. Learned a great deal, met some good people. It certainly didn't make me want to work on and shoot M14s less. If I don't get another my #### will fall off.

Ganderite posted in another thread:

"I have unpacked and my mag is missing. I think it got lost in the shuffle of the tables when we packed up.

My mag is the one with a black bottom plate with a painted color dot on it."

Excellent day, learned that what I thought was normal lose parts was grossly abnormal! This was just the start of tuning my rifle. :ar15: I also got a bayonet lug by swapping flash suppressors with someone. :dancingbanana: Damn, that means I now have to get a bayonet... It never ends.

I could see some squeamish faces, including my own, when the hammer and massive cold chisel  came out to remove the flash suppressors. Only one broke.

I'll be testing the changes at the Vintage shoot Oct 14.

Thanks all around, great day, great bunch of guys.

The Vintage Rifle shoot is Oct 14 at Winona Range, just off the QEW beside the lake, in Grimsby.

A perfect place to shoot your M14. We will shoot 100 and 200, with a good chance to zero at 200. Course of fire is Deliberate, Snap and Mover.

You can bring any kind of rifle that you want to play with.

PM me for details.

Thanks for the comradery of the day! I am proud to belong to such a fine group of cheap bastards that own Chinese m14s.

I look forward to taking it out to the range and seeing my groups improve, and thumbing my nose up at Springfield users :p. I will now also have to participate in CQB, without the #1 desert eagle!

Hungry, you are a legend- thank you. Cheers.
