Was watching a segment on the US Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Honor Guards. Noticed their M14 rifles had straight stocks like an M1903 rifle. Never noticed that before. Maybe a custom thing they do? Anyone seen these anywhere?

I hadn't noticed this before. Must be something that makes rifle drill easier. I don't know why else they'd bother.

Thanks OP! I had a look and yes, this seems to be the current stock profile. As it seems, the straight shape helps the soldier's hand grip

The Old Guard NCOs are issued Sig Sauer M17 pistols 21 capacity magazine. Wooden grips from deck of USS Olympia that delivered the Unknown Soldier to American shores.
Even the pistol sights have marble gleaned from the tomb. There's only four of these handguns in existence.
Talk about tradition & honor!!

I participated in a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington 40 years ago. It was a very impressive ceremony. Around the same time I saw a demonstration by the USMC Silent Drill team using M1 Garands which was equally impressive. Lots of focus needed.

There's much around Arlington to see, the Unknown Soldier, JFKs grave and eternal flame, the black eagle statue of the 101st Airborne.....

Special ceremonial M14s. Also, no magazine to foul up their drill when changing guards. I've visited many years ago and was super impressed with the whole ceremony and also Arlington Cemetery in general. It's very humbling to see all those grave stones.

The spindle valve on M14's is usually turned/affixed to the single shot mode also.

Notice the chromed front stock ferrule.

I noticed that, thought it was possibly silver but chrome makes more sense.

Maybe this is a suggestion that the tomb guards rifles don't have/aren't meant to fire live ammo. Yet this is a method to make up for this possible vulnerability?
