carsmovies, check your p.m's

as for email contact only...... my pm box is cleaned up a bit, but the real problem for me at this time is One phone line coming into my house, and dial up only for internet options. This means that the majority of the day and late evening, it wouldn't help to call me anyways, as if i'm online..... the phone doesn't ring.

For those folks that had late items, carsmovies, wildphil, submoa, J.F.B. and N.Grant , for the most part there is only one or two that contact me more than once a month. While i do try and get to all the dozens of emails i get everyday, I do not espond to weekly requests for updates unless i have time...... most often I do not.

my day consists of getting up at 5:30 a.m.
drive the 45 mins to town and drop the wife off at work.
if I have a load for the post office, which i do most days, I grab breakfast at ricky's and wait it out till the post office opens.
then it's a good hour at the post office most days, picking up and dropping off
then it's home to run the dog, organize everything that just came in from the post office...... try and find time to notify folks thier items arrived.
try and find time to send tracking numbers to people
unlock the shop, unlock the tools, unlock the rifle cabinets
and my bench time starts around noonish either on the rifle bench or the stock room.
2:30 rolls around and its lock up anything that needs it and make the 45 min drive into town, pick up the wife, grab a timmies, post office again if needed, or grocery shopping if it's that day.... then 45 mins for the drive home.
so i'm back in the shop around 4:00 ish for a couple hours..... have some dinner..... then it's back to the shop till about 11:00 when i like to watch the news and have a coffee..... then at midnite i either log onto the internet or go back to the shop and work till 2 a.m. then it's up at 5:30 a.m. or if it's the wife's day off...... i sleep in till 9:00 and spend the entire day in the shop.
This has pretty much been my schedule since April last year, with very little time off in between.
If you Know your item is late and I have told you that you will be contacted once the item ships, I see no reason to continually email me weekly. I'm not trying to be a ####, it's just the reality of the business i am in. When everything is custom AND I am dealing with chinese parts and trying to achieve a certain level of consistant quality in my work , for evry single customer i deal with...... there will always be the possibility of things that will come up that will cause delays for folks. Bottom line is, not one of my customers will be forced to endure a delay for no reason, as in me being lazy, or putting thier work aside in preference for another client.
I also realize that i can not keep everyone happy and that while my customer service and communication may not be even up to the standard I expect..... The consistancy of the quality of work i perform will not suffer or be compromised.
I have heard so many horror stories from clients and folks i've conversed with about gunsmiths and stock makers who have had guys items for well over a year and in the end, many of those folks were still happy, but there was an equal number of folks who were not happy with the work performed for the delay they endured. Matter of fact, a neighbor here had a custom walnut rifle stock made for his Sako 338mag bolt gun, paid 685.00 AND tax up front, 7 months later and 6 weks into hunting season, the gunsmith from william's lake, an hour and half drive to pick up, called and said it was done. Buddy made the drive to pick it up. First time shooting it, the stock cracked on the side of the barrel channel near the forend cap. He brought it by my place and i checked it out. It felt like it wasn't even finish prepped properly, lots of micro burs in the finish over the entire surface of this high end walnut monte carlo, the ction was not sitting true and in fact was near 4 millimeters out of alignment from center of stock to center of barrel and this caused barrel contact on the right side where the large 1 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch chunch of the stock cracked away and parted itself from the stock.
He took it back, the guy basically told him tough luck ..... and that removing the micro burrs and properly oiling the stock was another 175.00
told him he would fix the chunk that fell off and further relive the barrel channel and he would not even notice the repair.
paid his loot....... so that's 685 plus tax...... and now another 175.00 plus tax.....
got the rifle back..... stock was sticky, nothing done about the micro burrs..... and that cracked off piece was simply glued back in and it has a dark line all around it making it stand out like crazy. The stock still has barrel contact due to the bedding job originally done that set the action off center to begin with.
The stock is a total write off..... it's firewood, and the cash it cost and the near year wait it took to get it all done.... is now time and good money flushed down the toilet. He is not getting any satisfaction from the outfit that performed this work..... they have basically told him to get lost.

so, I will be making him an M14SA2 stock...... but with a twist so it will fit his Sako 338 mag.

anyhow, I have piles of work on my plate, and am booked solid for at least 2 to 3 months. While some folks might think these threads are detrimental to me and what i am doing....... in fact, from what i have seen, everytime one of these threads pops up..... my requests for quotes on work increase.

if there is one thing this past year has taught me, I can not be everything for everyone all of the time. As a result of this, I have developed the practice of shutting my bench down when the work load reaches a certain level of bookings. It is my hope that this will allow me to better structure my time to maintain a prescence on CGN , keep up with emails and p.m.'s and deliver quality work in a reasonably timely fashion......

I'll add this as well..... I am not on CGN to scam or rip folks off, this is evident in my years of past dealings here. It should be plainly evident by now that I am a trustworthy individual with hundreds of CGN dealings both as 45ACPKING (my former handle before i became a dealer) and as M14Doctor. Perfect track record with 100% of those i've dealt with? Nope..... there's a couple folks who weren't happy when some personal issues interepted some deals a couple years ago. These situations were entirely out of my control and were sales of a personal nature.
Anyhow, long and short, delay or not, slow communication or not, I am dedicated to what I do and that is to serve the CGN community as best as I can and learn from my mistakes and shortcomings and apply that learning to improving my business practices.

Give it a rest already. Where else would you suggest ppl complain then?

lol me give it a rest...you keep coming on with a weekly, hourly and might as well be by the secong update stating that your rifle is not home yet. Its ok man, we alllll hear you loud and clear. I would sugest you complain to the man doing the work, not everyone else who has NO control over the situation. What do you plan to gain from whining on the interweb?. if you cant get a hold of him through emails or pm's request his home phone number and call and complain to him....as much as you come on and complain hear. YOu would rather ##### on line to random people, then track down the man who does the work and ##### to him. like seriously, this cry about the m14 doc is old. Its clear that it takes longer then expected. I'll tell ya what..you tell us what you paid for the rifle, and the work, and im sure somone will gladly take it off your hands

maybe somone should sticky that last post by the doc...might help people "deal" with things. I agree, if you have been toldsomthing, why do you need to keep talking about it. Thts part of my point, leave the man alone to his life, and his work.

Thanks for replying to me Thomas. As for Matt, I had been calling as well. I actually didn't bring this thread back to the top initially but since it was brought back up I thought I would voice my opinions. That's what a forum is for.

As for the Doc's work, I've never said his work isn't anything but the best. Maybe having moved out to the boonies didn't help his business that much after all.

naw, i doubt being in the sticks helped him. But hey, I cant blame him for wanting to live there. The work is top notch. Its clear that there are some communication issues, but its also clear that he is not dooping people out of there hard earned money. It sucks to wait, it sucks to wait longer then you planed....is sucks worse to complain on a forum. I think this stuff should be more private. between customer and seller. These constant threads are helping no one.

The move to the sticks has actually been a fricken godsend for me ;)
Down in the lowermainland , my wife and I had to keep moving further out from the vancouver area due to rising rental costs.
3 years ago , my wife went to school for resident care training after spending many years as a security team supervisor in Vancouvers busiest, and wildest triage/trama Unit at St Pauls. Any VPD officer can tell ya what a crazy job that is.
anyhow , after the schooling..... the promised jobs never appeared...... and the docks where i was (and still am) a part time/causal longshoreman, was so slow , me and the wife had to move from the house we held the first West Coast m14 support group clinics.
I had the largest bedroom of that house as my "man room" and none of my endeavors where business related. Matter of fact, when I started doing the clinics , after being inspired by what Hungry was doing, I had absolutely ZERO intentions nor thought that what i was doing was going to bring me where i am. I started the clinics as a way to meet new friends that where shooters and hunters and m14 nuts like me.... period. Had no intentions of being a "high profile M14 guy" on CGN , no intentions of being a custom rifle builder/stock maker, outside of what i did for myself and for friends.

then i built my own modified usgi stock after having so many issues with trying to import one back then,,,, took it to the range..... and next thing you know, by the end of that year(april 09), I'm a dealer on CGN , customizing Usgi fiberglass stocks and tuning rifles as so many people were asking me too, and after seeing other smiths work that was not done correctly...... and the snow ball has just continued with a steady and growing demand for the work that I do.
I've had plans to have accessories machined for the m14 and in many ways have let many folks down as I spoke about them here and have not delivered. I can't get into all the reasons why those items are still not done, but the main reason is that i do not possess a cnc shop and operator at my finger tips and I don't have an unlimittd amount of cash to throw at capable shops to see those items made right now. There is also other groups out there endeavoring to machine new accessories, so recently have decided to bow out of competing in that market and instead will focus my talents on producing high quality custom hand made rifle stocks and open my bench from time to time to accept custom rifle work.

One thing that only those who have spent some time with me know is that I have a physical disability from a couple serious work injuries as a steel fabricator. I'm not supposed to go hunting, hiking, lifting, can't run, live with a certain level of pain 24/7 as I choose not to indulge in the plethora of medications/pharmecuticals that are availlable to cripples like me :D :D that and i'm allergic to most of em anyways.
elevation eases my daily pain big time and affords me a freedom of movement and comfortability that I just did not have living near the coast in b.c.
So, moving to the sticks up here at bout 3800 ft , has not only made my work possible but also been way better for my quality of life as far as my injuries go. It has provided my wife with an awesome job, has allowed us to afford to lease a property that is zoned residential/commercial, has provided me a certain level of security required for what I do, and most of al has given me LOTS of space to have 3 different shop rooms and my office, as well as spacious living accomodations for wife and dog ;) The ONLY down side to this is that TonyG, my tig welder , is in the lowermainland, so it's a 5 day trip down every 4 to 6 weeks, and my fricken internet options here are dial....... and something very expensive that is not dial up LOL
But in the end it is simply that I have had to learn to watch the volume of work I take on, untill such time as employees are added that can start to make my life easier and afford me more time for the work that i do and find a balance so i can actually go ice fishin one of these days LOL coyote huntin and ice fishin, two things i swore i'd spend my whole winter doing..... haven't gone once LOL

okay, i goys to get off the computer and back to the shop..... i've got a row of Sage's needing my attention and a trigger job or too to perform...... and i gots to pick up the wife at 3 ...... did i mention that to add to all my issues..... my wife doesn't have a driver's liscence? one of these days she keeps saying.......

Sounds like one of these days, I gotta give you a hand. :D Seriously, I'm up to my butt in CQB matches (8 of them), Service Rifle matches (4 of them), Service clinic (1), CQB Clinic (1), and a whole host of instruction dates.

In the meantime, it's good that you can organize your time and determine what is and isn't doable by having gone through the challenging learning curve; Adversity introduces us to ourselves!

I'm still waiting for another invite to do some hunting by you. Lol.

i think for the benefit of everyone , I'll request that this thread be locked up.
for the record, I have not felt harrassed nor put out by this entire thread. I think it's time Matt stopped worrying about carsmovies intentions. You are BOTH valued customers and I don't want to see a thread like this degrading into a banning incident.
I am aboriginal as well (card carrying Metis) and wasn't offended by the comments. I did find the dog pic hilarious , outside of the context of this thread, just cuz it's funny.

so, i'd like this to be locked up, those who have had delays on work from 2010 is for the 5 folks i mentioned in previous post above and all should be satisfied to know that thier long wait will end shortly when thier items arrive.
ALL work booked since the end of 2010 is on schedule and I have not heard a peep of concern from any of those clients

what i may do is get one of those sub forums for my dealer account so that threads like this can go there and not be a burden to moderators and the rest of the mbr community that I am sure that while entertained.... are tired of the where's waldo threads LOL
I gota get me some bright blue jeans and a waldo striped shirt for the next clinic..... i'll have to grow a mop of hair in the meantime and we'll get some pics LOL
