M14 Failure to Feed.

I would pay attention to this comment by Chris S pasted below.

And...
Sadlak spring guides are top shelf. Is spring chinese?
Spring guide with the right spring, will not be the problem here.

Magazine could be the problem

Also I would inspect the inside of the receiver where the mag
stops on top to see if there is a blockage preventing full mag engagement.

I would inspect magazine catch pin to ensure it is not cracked and allowing improper movement of mag.

What barrel is that?
Did you have it done by a smith? If so, I'd take it back and remedy.
No dremels or die grinders!!! Your smith should have tools/stones ect for adjusting and deburring/dehorning the feed ramps.

Again, it's gonna be one of those things where advice can only come from what we assume by what we are seeing on this side of the keyboard....
But... If your indexing was out enough to cause what I see in the pics.... Your bolt would not close... Round in chamber or not. So I think "an index issue" is not the problem here

One other thing you could check is that your extractor is moving correctly. I had the same thing happen to me when I put wolf springs in my bolt, it would not pick up the round property and bind up in the same spot as yours .Good luck keep us posted.

45ACPKING,

The barrel is a heavy Krieger on an LRB M25 receiver and JAE stock. All parts are USGI or better, nothing Chinese.

The rifle was barreled up by a person who barrels up guns full time, but he had no experience with M14s. I knew that when I brought it to him. I had the gun over there last weekend and he was willing to correct the issue, but I didn’t want to leave it because it’s a 4 hour drive each way. I’d have to go get it back a couple weeks later.

After examining the problem, we have concluded it is the angle the feed ramps were cut. We figure that we just need to enlarge the feed ramps without going deeper into the chamber, by changing the angle about 5 degrees outward from the long axis center line.

Before I get too far into it I will test the ejector spring as a sanity check though.

I’m shooting this weekend, so I’ll get at it next week.

I’ll yank the barrel and touch it up myself. I hate to do it after all the effort that went into fitting and assembling everything, but it has to be done.

I would send a pic of the chamber ramps to krieger and see if they have any comment.

I also noticed on kriegers that the center hump between the ramps can be real sharp and have actually punctured brass on loaded dud rounds. Some gentle attention deburring that hump may be required as well.
Hope you get er worked out, keep us posted ;)
