Alright, I recently bought a Norinco M-14 NIB. Brought her to the range to try out and it won't feed properly. It shoots fine but after each shot I have to pull the cocking handle to pick up the next round. Empties are ejecting fine but it doesn't seem to be throwing them far. Now every now and again it does cycle and empty is ejected FAR.
Now, I did tear it apart and clean out all the factory grease and crap. Gas tube is dry, light oil on bolt. Tried several loads, Win 150's, Win 180's, and some hand loads (150g softpoint, 42g 3031) and still no luck. Now, other than this it shoots good. Acuracy is better than expected and have not had a jam or anything.
Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks

Mine had a couple of ftf (failure to feed) one day at the range I did notice that my gas plug had loosen off. If the gas sysytem isn't tight, that might be the reason. Haven't been back to the range to see if I was right..

Two things.

There should be a little 'screw' almost, below the BBL near the front of the stock.

turn that screw, it should be in a particular setting (make sure it is aligned straight up and down, and not side to side)

so its properly set. That activates the gas system, which could be the problem.

Second suggestion... tighten that damn gas nut as much as you can! It comes loose sometimes.

Thirdly, careful of bullet grains over 165... its not healthy for your M14 to shoot over 168gr consistently. The gas system isn't built for it.

I've ran a box or two for hunting through mine, but wouldn't do it regularly.

Is the rifle properly lubed with grease ? Did you by chance remove the gas system ? If so the gas port on the barrel needs to be lined up with the gas cylinder . Did you clean the cosmo/oil from the piston ? If not carbon could build up very quickly . Check that your op rod spring is not broken and is in good shape .Could alsobe a defective ejector spring.
Gas plug is most likely the problem as others here allready mentioned .
Let us know what you find ?
