M14 Flash Hidders Welded or Not?

I've received both my toys on monday and I've cleaned and lube the living daylights out of it. I've looked at the stickies and the flash hidders do not appear to be spot welded as shown in the pics. Is it possible that they aren't?

It's possible, but not likely. Some are lightly spot welded and you may just get away with a few hammer blows to remove (after removing the set-screw/castle nut of course). Mine was rather heavily spot welded, but you could not tell by looking at it.

That looks welded to me.
Have a real close look at the spots at about 5 and 7 o'clock. Shine it up with some 400 grit wet-or-dry and apply some cold bluing.

not necessarily....regarding to the finishing on the hinder, this one is welded .....on the M14s that I have there were no even signs of spotwelding, but the flashhidder was welded in 3 points......
try to loose the castle nut and move the flashhidder....
if it wil not move - hummer will help you

Your flash hider is most likely welded, I bought my M-305 last year and had to cut the flashhider off because it was welded on the bottom, it is very hard to see and you will damage your threads if you beat on it trying to get it lose. If you want to change out your flash hider your better of to either cut it off (carefully) or use other methods (heating).

Your flash hider is welded on.

look for two discolored spots on the underside of the FH right behind where the Bayonet lug should be.

One spot is visible in your pic.

As said, the welds will be at the 5 & 7 o'clock positions.

Read the stickies for the easy way to remove these welded FHs.

The easiest way is to center punch and drill out most of the weld, and then tap of with a large drift punch & hammer.

I have down LOTS of these removals, and this is the easiest way I have found to do this, and you can usually save the FH from damage.The drilled holes can be filled with JB weld and covered up quite nicely!!!

From what I've seen, only the early blued M305's had a flash hider that wasn't welded on - nicer machining and finish too!

Yep, its welded on. Follow the instructions you find here on CGN and you'll have no problems removing it.

mine was welded but broke free with a couple good taps.

I bought mine 10 years ago at Milarm for $425, It had a solid flashider that was not welded on. I replaced it with a USGI hider, for $50

(No, I'm not Norinco bashing... I'm just saying most stuff made in China tends to be crappily assembled)

I had to look closely b/c mines been refinsihed but..

yup mine is welded.
