Ok guys, I've got a quick question. Are the splines in the M305 flash suppressor meant to be milled right through?? I just received my new M305 two days ago and after looking, I noticed that the suppressor splines are just grooved in to the exterior, nowhere near being cut all the way through, is this the way they are meant to be? Seems to me that all the other pics I've seen on here of other peoples M305's that the splines were carved all the way through.

Some are machined through, others are not. Either way, it's a garbage unit. Consider replacing it with one from brownells or 762mmfirearms.

OK, thanks. Perhaps if I buy a replacement, I can install it at the M14 Doctor clinic in Dec. in PoCo. Any idea what kind of prices to expect for replacements?

I think the ones not milled through were ment for markets were flash suppressors and not legal. Some of the them are not garbage units and do not need to be replaced.
However most are tack welded in place.

OMG!

Sounds like Uncle Chow's quaility control went out the window again. By any chance can we get a pic of it?
Call 7.62mm Firearms and get them to make you 1 to NM spec's & you will be glad you did.

They make fake flash suppressors for places like Kalifornia where the Kommunists demand that you cannot have baby killing flash suppressors.

If it isn't going to hurt the accuracy of the rifle, then I really don't care if it suppresses the flash or not, I'm not too concerned with giving away my position to anything I intend to shoot.;) I thought it was the rough finishing of the splines on the interior of the flash suppressor that caused accuracy issues?? Please enlighten me, I don't want to upgrade unless necessary.

My first M305 had the fake flash hider, never hurt accuracy as far as I could tell. It was a way around the Assault Weapons Ban.

I'm guessing this is what mine is, as the splines(or what should be splines lol) look to be finished quite cleanly, it doesn't appear to my eyes to be partially finished.

Nutty!
Another reason why I hate to live in California.
Anyone got a pic of this type of "fake" flash hidder?

Mine is the same, soon to be removed.
Poly M305 made sometime in 2009.

don't panic hehehe
there is nothing to worry about.
unless you want a functional flash suppressor for night time zombie shooting.
those nonmilled flashider VANES (the splines are inside and mate to the barrel splineways) used to be a lot more common on pre and early 80's models as at the time they were importable to the U.S. . I am surprised to find a growing number of 2009 vintage rifles being sent to me with non milled flash hider vanes.
One the bright side.....
most of these are functional in that the front sight base is milled correctly.
my advice.....
wait for the clinic, we will inspect the flash hider to see if it is a serviceable unit, we will remove it and then you can decide if you need or want to replace it. Springfield Armory Inc and 7.62 firearms offer suitable replacements.

Thoughts on Smith Enterprises ??

I'm a big fan of the quality products offered by smith enterprise, however many are diffucult to aquire due to ITAR regs and Smith Enterprise serving military contracts of said ITAR controlled items. I am not sure if thier standard flash suppressor is verboten..... but i do not see or hear of too many in Canada so I'm thinkin they are not that availlable. I was given a name of a guy who is rumoured to be the canadian distributor for smith ent..... but have not had any replies to my queries through the email address i was given for contact.

Shoot it first and document your groups. You may not want a slotted one if the rifle shoots half decent. Also check the thread dimensions (metric versus imperial thread) before you spring cash.

Rick @ Alberta Tactical should have them in stock and yes Brownells will ship you muzzle brakes but not flash hidder's. 7.62mm has both bayonet lugged and if your nice enough will make you 1 done to NM spec's with out the lug.
