M14 Gas cylinder plug question

Are USGI M14 Gas cylinder plugs stainless steel and can the spindle valve be parkerized ? Thank you.

No I don't believe they are. Well..... a magnet sticks to them anyway....

And yes the spindle will take Park.

USGI M14 gas cylinders , pistons and plugs are in fact made from hardened stainless steel. The carbon composition of the particular stainless used however does make them "slightly" magnetic. I think but don't quote me.... they used a 400 series stainless but I'd have to check my library on that one.

edit to add **** found my binder of usgi M14 component blueprints
the following parts are stainless steel

1) gas cylinder spindle valve requires 440A stainless steel
2) gas cylinder plug requires 416 stainless steel
3) gas cylinder requires 416 stainless steel
4) gas piston requires 416 stainless steel
