M14 gas lock very loose ?

I just bought another M14 and the gas lock is very loose, I can push it oven about half of the treads without any force.

Looks like it has been improperly threaded, any other option than an expensive barrel change ?

Are you saying that when you rotate the gas lock it rotates past the 6.00 position before getting tight ? If so it can be easily fixed with shims or by removing and reversing it so it screws on from the other side.
If you havn,t removed your flashider yet you can cut the shim and slide it over the barrel if you have to.

Yes, I have been comparing my 2007 with the new rifle and the treads on the barrel seems fine, gas lock must be way out of spec.

Nope, im saying there is so much space between the barrel/gas lock treads that it cant get tight.


Btw, anybody got a spare chinese gas lock floating around that I could buy ?
