m14 gas system build...question

I'm attempting to put together a gas system. I have installed the spindle valve & spring into the gas cylinder, however have to secure it with a roll pin. I've never worked with roll pin's before. The pin will not fit into the valve. Do i require any special tools or should I just hammer her in?

find a drill bit that will fit the hole in the spindle valve and instert the rod end.
this will help you line things up. then back it out a bit leaving a small portion of the hole to start the new pin into.
i have found that rounding the end of the pin you are going to insert, with a stone, sand paper or a fine file, can assist in starting the pin into the hole.
next i use a punch, wrapped with a layer of masking tape to not marr the rifle's finish to drive the pin in
the punch i use is a roll pin punch and is hollowed at the business end. I have them in 12 sizes and can be purchased at any tool store but mine came from princess auto for dirt cheap
