M14 gunsmith Calgary?

The Rockies and east are Hungry's clinic turf LOL (joking :D :D )
but seriously, not sure what kind of time i'll have for clinics..... other than at POCO in the lowermainland and i'm planning an M14 weekend here at my place for July sometime for me and my friends and anyone else from CGN that wants to come..... we got room ;)

You said it right. Time is tough to find in order to conduct and deliver M14 clinics. By all means carry out the M14 clinic east of the Rockies if you got the time. I don't mind at all because I'm up to my butt in Service Rifle and Service CQB matches through the spring and summer. That's why I cannot run up to 10 clinics (back in 2008-2009) a year.

My wife is running out of patience (and I cannot blame her). The sad truth is that one of these days I will not be able to deliver the M14 clinics and they are a finite adventure. When I am home on the odd weekends, she insists on going motorcycle riding and that's a fair demand. :D

And some of you know me here in the Ontario Rifle scene, often I get called up to RSO (Range Safety Officer) the Mons, Amiens, Langemark Range pratices/matches .... so all these events pull me away from the M14 scene.

Sometimes I wish I had the single talent to merely focus on, but you know what they say, "Be careful of what you wish for." So with that in mind, I will just have to spread myself out evenly. :)

Last summer, I got lucky and had a window of opportunity to drive out West with all my M14 tools in my Rav4 to conduct TWO M14 Clinics in Calgary and then hunt for a few days. After my 2 or 3 day gopher safari I headed east to Shilo, MB to visit the boys in 2PPCLI and finally present an M14 Clinic in Winnipeg/Selkirk. Those opportunities don't come up too often. Not sure what this summer will bring since I might be doing some consulting with a Precision Rifle team. It's all good! :p

Cheers,
Barney

If one of the guys you phoned, works out of a trailer park, he's not much of a gunsmith either !!!!
Is his name Julian and wears a black shirt and carries a rum & coke? Because I think bubles does great work as long as you don't presure him. Although I don't think I would ever let Ricky touch my stuff with a ten foot poll,
:p

Haha I'll make sure i don't drop it off anywhere near a trailer park then :p I'm not looking for cheap and fast, I just want to have the rifle good enough to put enough rounds through it a month to keep me nice and broke and have a consistent shooting rifle :)

How does your rifle shoot now?
Have you done some of the accurizing Barney advocates?
What do you want out of the build at the end of the day?

I'll tell you, after attending the clinic a couple of years ago and seeing what a tuned but otherwise box-stock 'rinco can do, I'm not prepared to spend the (potentially thousands of) dollars to go that extra mile for little incrimental gain in accuracy.
Besides, the money you save can be spent on ammo or better yet, handloading equipment to tune the ammo to the rifle.

My 2 cents.;)

Beltfed makes a great point.
Simple tweaks and tuning.... and maybe some minor parts upgrades like NM spring guide rods ect are all that is really needed in most of these rifles. Some have issues that may need extra attention from more experienced hands. Lucky for every gun nut with an m14 and M1A, this forum exists to aid the do ityourselfers and provide reliable info to source what you can not do yourself..... barrel chops, trigger jobs, accessories, spare parts ect ect.

Like I said I was just looking for some simple tweaks nothing crazy, all I want is a reliable rifle that I can go out with friends and tag some targets, I already had the sadlak spring guide ready to go in and that's it for internal parts and just have the gas system unitized. I'm already looking into reloading equip too so I can create my own recipe for my rifle :)

being from Calgary there should be an excellent group of gunnutz that could share what they learned at Hungry's clinics. It's a good way to make new friends too. perhaps one of them calgarian guys can show you the simple tweaks that can be done at home and hook you up with a TIG welder ;)
