Hey guys,

With the m14 doc out of the picture recently for m14 work. Who would anyone in BC recommend for some of the common m305 upgrades (Unitizing gas block, shimming, etc) I recently acquired a BNIB polytech and it seems to be "not bad" so far. Just looking for information, thanks!

Have you considered doing it yourself ?
As long as you don't fart around with the trigger group or strip the bolt you should be fine.
EVERYTHING you need to know is in the stickies. Try flipping your gas ring before you decide you need shims.
This gun is childs play compared to most.

Yea I mean, I'm pretty mechanically inclined and understand the theory of it. I've just got that 'I don't wanna bugger it up' anxiety. Perhaps I'll spend some time watching examples and review the stickies again. Thanks guys! Especially Dave, shut up and shoot the damn thing is almost never the wrong answer!

I currently have a 2012 shorty that has been trouble-free out of the box. I think that all the tweaking people do is a little over-hyped and I'm yet to see a side by side comparo between a massaged M305 and a box-stock one. Perhaps you could drop in a better op-rod spring guide ($40), but other than that, if it's not acting up just start blasting and enjoy the darn thing :)

Other than tig weld unitizing, correct trigger jobs, dwell time adjustments and barrel work.... Ya, the rest is pretty much child"s play and well within the scope of average guy who can read and use tools. :D
Clean it and inspect for any obvious issues.
Grease it and verify the safety checks
And ya, go shoot the snot ouuta it.

I replaced the guide rod in mine that was it shoots better and cycles better now but that was it.
