"M14" hunting loads, commercial brass

The info I have been told religiously with Garand/M14, only run Ball spec ammo through (Ie. Chinese ball, American and other Nato Ball, American Eagle, PPU Priv. Partzn. or tailoredhandloads that are loaded with correct powders and correct bullet weights. And before anyone says anything on that one, I HAVE seen second hand what the incorrect ammo does in an M14. In One gun, the bolt gun handload that was put through the M14, Cracked locking lugs (yes, both lugs), flying/missing extractor, bent Op Rod, destroyed stock with 2 lengthwise cracks, blown Magazine. Yes the shooter was fine, but scared the crap out of him. If memory serves me, the handload was a 180 Gr. backed with IMR 4350. So, like the guide says, use only the powders suggested.

Well, the components I have chosen are within what is recommended for loading for M1s. Except maybe the brass, which seems to be the only iffy point. Why anyone would fire a handload in a different rifle without testing, regardless of action type is beyond me...

I will be sticking to the lower scale of Barnes data. Hopefully I can work up to 43 ish grains of 4895 as suggested. Thanks guys!!

Hey, it is really simple. Buddy #1 had been reloading for years and Buddy #1 and #2 knew that his handloads were safe in his bolt gun, so, why not try them in the Norinco. They didn't know or think about that Gas Semis are different than bolt and lever guns.

Ok heres my take. In my Norenco I load 165gr Barnes TTSX with winchester brass. Powder is IMR 4895, 45grains chronied at 2700FPS for a group size of 1.5 inches for a 5 round group with one flyer at 100 meters with a rack grade Norenco. yur milage may vary. note load is over indicated book load work up slow be careful. I am running the Sadlak grooved piston for higher barrel pressures. In my weapon no pressure signs with the brass or primers. I am in the process of mounting the Norenco on a Sage EBR stock. Just as soon as I can get my barrel vise in from Sinclair I will remove flash hider and install in the new platform. Looking for 1.5 - 2MOA routine with the new stock.
