Does anyone know of a company that makes m14 barrels in a caliber other then .308 or 7.62. Specifically, I'm thinking .243 win. I know Springfield did in the 90s and if someone has one kicking around please pm me if your interested in getting rid of it.

Anyone ever heard of or dealt with west wind rifles in Colorado? Apparently, they buy and turn kriegers blanks into any caliber you want. Not sure if I can get them north of the border. Anyone in Canada offer the same service?

SA Inc chambered the M1A in .308, .243 and .358 Win(their M1 rifle came in .30-06, 270 and a .35 calibre too. Forget which .35 it was. .30-06 based case.) and discontinued the latter two long before the '90's. Mid to late 80's, as I recall. Not enough demand. Crying shame too.
I think there are barrel makers, Stateside, still making 6mm, et al, barrels. All barrels require the export permit and U.S. makers require the exporter's licence(ain't the same thing). None of 'em care about the Canadian market anyway.

I would bet Kreiger would do it.
I think Jerry at Mystic brings in the Kriegs. Why don't you get in touch with him?

I like where you're going with this. I almost did it myself a while back.

As far as my experience goes with Mystic, Jerry can't turn you out a custom barrel for the M14 from a blank..been down that road.. Contact Ian at Herron arms, in canada.
I'll be paying him to turn me out a .338 federal barrel as soon as winter has passed.
I'm going to make a copy of SAI's "Border Ruffian .338F" :D

Hey Thomas that will be a cool project!

In what length and barrel profile are you thinking of?

Any tips on how you regulate the gas system / gas port size on the barrel or you going to swap everything including the US thread gas system for an adjustable?

m1a in 358 win would be something amazing

+1 one on the 358Win. Great for cast bullets, hard hitter at medium ranges and quick follow up shots. I'd enjoy that caliber in the M305. I wonder what kind of money it would take to get an extra barrel? Probably more than what the rifle cost. lol

Everything will be pretty standard usgi spec parts and the actual assembly on my bench will be pretty straight forward.
The only real mod that will be done is a slight tweaking of the gas port itself and possibly honing out gas plug to increase volume somewhat. Barrel will be 19" but haven'y decided on contour but something near a medium would work.
