M14 mag limits

Storm, you really need to talk to your kids. This is the way they learn now. Otherwise it isnt far to all the kids who sleep, skip or pass out through classes. Afterall, everything they need to learn is right here on the internet!

Don't count on a judge seeign eye to eye with you on that. Even if the mag says that it is a pistol mag if it's found in a rifle it won't take the judge long to decide that it's a rifle mag.

I'd like to see someone deliberately get themself charged and try this defense out in court. Maybe I'd be surprised at the outcime, but I doubt it.

No kidding. The Beretta CX4 and storm mags come to mind. Not to mention the 10 rd 9mm AR15 mags. If those guns can get 10rd mags, the M14 should be able to also.

I gotta admit, it might be a bit difficult to turn a M14 into a pistol the way they did with the AR15. Really, the only option would be to make a completely new bolt or pump action .308 with completely new .308 cal magazines that just happen to fit into an M14. That'd be the only feasible way of making completely legal 30rd M14 mags.

The Enfield is specifically exempted as well from 5 round mags because someone writint the legislation figured out that after WW1 there were several trial and some production enfield semi autos that used the 10 round mags. The same mags that fit in bolt action enfield

oh and as a side they would also be able to us the 20 and 25 round 'trench mags' from WW1


So if they had not included the enfield mags (not the rifles) all 10 round enfield mags would have become prohibited devices because somewhere in a museum there are semi auto enfield rifles.

I think the Lee Enfeild mags are actualy limited to ten rounds because they fit in some prototype semi auto.

I don't know about all Firearms Safety/Hunter Ed instructors, but I do go over the mag capacity limits,(although maybe not the Garand exemption, or the specific naming of Enfield mags). I do cover the 5 round magazine maximum (plus one in the chamber) for centrefire semi-auto (shotgun or rifle) BUT I go on to point out NEXT WEEK WHEN YOU TAKE THE HUNTER ED. COURSE YOU WILL LEARN THAT YOUR REPEATING SHOTGUN WHETHER PUMP OR SEMI-AUTO MUST BE PLUGGED TO HOLD A MAXIMUM OF THREE SHELLS, ONE IN THE CHAMBER AND TWO IN THE MAGAZINE TO CONFORM TO THE HUNTING REGULATIONS WHICH ARE PROVINCIAL AS OPPOSED TO FEDERAL LAWS.

The enfield mags would only be prohibited if they were designed for that semi-auto rifle and held more than 5 rounds, not the bolt action version. I believe you have it backwards.
