The mag release on my m305 is quite tight, (probably the mag itself) making it a 2 hand operation to do a mag change. Anyone else have this issue? What modification should be done to make this easier?
You have to find the cause before you can fix it. Disassemble the rifle and look for burrs on and around the latch. Assuming it's extremely tight. Isn't likely to be the mag, but measuring the mag width with a Vernier calipre won't cost anything.
My M14 was very tight on the mag release when I first used it. But now after shooting about 500 rounds through it the mags come out one handed. If you use 5 round mag, it is a little harder to release and get in. But sure is easier to carry a couple of mags for hunting.
I just put a thin layer of frog lube on my mags and they worked a lot better after that. Another thing I did was sanded and polished the tabs on the back of the mags as well as the mag release. Gave them a mirror finish now they release very easily. The finish on the mags as well as on the metal used in the firearm is so rough that they are too tight of a fit.
I noticed the same with one of my 20/5 round mags. After 300 or 400 rounds it seems to be loosening up. The sticky mag has developed a shiny wear spot so in my case I'm thinking it was the mag.
I think many (if not all) of the "SOCOM 18" rifles Dominion Arms imported in the past six months came with improperly installed mag releases.
There was/is a thread on here about it (pics, everything). I ended up going mad with the Dremel on the top/front surface of my mag release. That allowed one-handed operation. But make sure not to grind off too much, or the mags will tend to fall out. You don't want that. ^|
