With the wealth of knowledge on here I am asking if anyone knows if the old M14 mag will fit the Australian International Arms Lee Enfield rifle? I just bought one from Marstar and was looking at the magazine, and was surprised by it's resemblance to the old M14 mag. Be interested to know if anyone has tried one or knows if they fit. The reason I ask is if I ever damage the magazine what could i replace it with? as the spare parts are all sold out according to Marstar, and AIA don't answer their emails.

It's been covered numerous times before. They are 'rumoured' to be interchangeable. I can't comment on how well they work when this is done as I have no hands on experience. BUT - if you use an M14 mag in an AIA it must remain pinned! The reason the AIA mags are so sought after is that you can legally use a 10 round mag in an M14. The law has to do with what the mag was designed for, not what you are using it in. Apparently one of our fellow members in going to be manufacturing new AIA mags soon to fill the demand.

Thanks Vimy, I saw that someone was planning to make them on another thread, but it seems to have died away. Sorry for creating extra threads on the subject, i'm still finding my way around this forum, and not very adept at searching the threads. I guess this is another convoluted law from our "Marvelous" legal system, to further confuse us legal gun owners; and hamper the enjoyment of our sport. I am sure non of the drug dealers and other criminals are restricted by such laws. They probably have people maunfacturing 30 rounders for M14's as we speak.

Read elsewhere on this site that the M14 mags could be easily modified to fit the AIA rifles by slightly filing down the lower lip of the "enagagement tab" on the back of the M14 mag.

So I tried it, a little file work beveling the bottom of the tab on the m14 mags worked- it now fits and locks on the AIA and still locks on my M14.

On the photo, the left mag is an AIA- Middle mag is an unmodified M14 mag and the right mag is a modified M14 mag.

Note the slight bevel on the bottom (left on this photo) of the engagement tab of the AIA and modified M14 mag, the tab on the stock M14 mag is quite square.

I offer no guarantees, all I can say is it worked fine on mine. In fact, the modified M14 mag fits better on my AIA rifle that the AIA mag.
