after using those pain in the a** 5 round mags that came with my M14 a couple of times,I figured either throw these things away, or make them work better. So here's what I came up with.take some 3/8 steel instrument tubing bend a 180 in it. take a peice of 1/8x1/2" flat bar,drill two 3/16 holes to match up with the holes in the tubing.braze the loop to the flat bar.Drill matching holes in the floor plate of the mag. Pop rivet the floor plate to the loop assy. reinstall the floor plate in the mag. Load 'em up and enjoy quick and easy mag changes. whatta ya think of that?

Interesting idea! :D

Myself I'm just going to use 5 round box magazines from SAI, I dont want the empty weight of the 20 rounder but dont want it too short. So with the M1A I decided the best bet would be getting 5 round box magazines as they are sized as 10 round magazines. :)

After I pick up the gun (should be this month! :D ) and get some mags I'm definitely going to have to give Tiger Tactical a call so I can see if they can make magazine pouches for them. :)

Good idea. You've got to do something with them. I was thinking some kind of block of black plastic. Working those short mags sucks especially in cold weather, and it during deer season that I'd want to use them just in case the Conservation Nazi's decide because they can force 6 rounds in my pinned mags I should be arrested.
 
I ordered some plastic mag covers off of e pay and I'm gonna try them on the bottom of the mags to see if it gives more grip for the hand.Sorta like the plastic dip idea on plier handles.

I too want to use my 5 rounders when i'm hunting..... I'll bump this thread with pics when i have a couple mags done up.

Looks like a non existent make pretend ghost mag ! Great job ! :)
 
i didn't want the magpul type look, so made a mag bumper of sorts, similar to those found on the bottom of pistol mags, i used a shaped aluminum core and overmolded it in fiberglass with epoxy resin, held to mag body by 3 small machine screws, tapped through the bottom of the sides of the mag. easily removed to expose the unaltered bottom plate. Gives a nice clean profile to the rifle and easy grip on the mag. I like the idea above as well.... very functional, good job ;)
 
I go with 20 rounders all the way. Maybe 10 rounders as well. Anything shorter than 10, and the M-14 just doesn't 'look right'. With the 5 round mags on, the rifle looks neutered.

I thought this too, but then realized that a 5/20 mag in there is like stuffing socks down the front of your pants - nothing in there to back it up:p

Edited to add: Ok guys, no cracks here about it being a Chinese gun!!!
