M14 magazine sizes ?

I just bought a M14 from EE, and the guy said that it came with a 10 round magazine that is pinned to hold 5. Now that I have the magazine, it looks to me that it is a 5 rounder, that is not pinned, and that the extra space inside the magazine under the follower is just from the spring.

Can someone tell me the dimensions of a 10 rounder or a 5 rounder so I can measure it.

When the Magazine is installed into the gun it, it only sticks out about an inch at the most.

I am pretty sure that it is a 5 rounder and not a 10 rounder, but I just wanted to know for 100%

i have a 10 round mag which is pinned to 7 .. its much larger than the 5 round mags ( which can actually hold 7 with some mods .. i dont know if you guys are allowed to do that though )

If the mag is almost flush with the bottom of the stock when it's seated... it's a 5 rounder. If it protrudes a couple inches... it's a 10 rounder.

Okay thanks. It sticks out about an inch at the most, so it must be a 5er.

I have a couple of 5/10 round mags.. not sure who makes them, but they're good quality and has a block of wood and a rivet on the floor plate.. they stick out exactly 1.4 inches.. i'll see if i can find a pic for ya.

a buddy at the range has a couple next time i'll see him i'll ask where he got them. if it was Marstar or somewhere else.

Without the hole in the front, do they stay seated? Would it be legal to add a hole?

illeagal to add the hole, but from what i've heard (and seen) they stay seated just fine and seem to actually function better than a regular m14 mag. the 5 rounder he had kept jamming, but his 10 rounders didn't have a single hiccup that i saw. Take what i say with a grain of salt. it's not my gun it's a buddy's. i know his 1st name, cuz we seem to be at the range at the same time alot. so i suppose he's more of an aquantance. anyways that's my 2 cents. YMMV like anything in the interent it's not written in stone, and i could be wrong in such matters.

I bought a 10/5 round mag from Sprinfield a few years back. Nice mag. Don't know if they will still ship them up or not.

Well hell hopefully some has an option that's not perpetually outa stock or gonna have US shipping issues. Cool as the 20 rounders look a nice little 10 rounder would be nice
