Anyone know of a good source of GOOD MAGS in Calgary? Those magazines with the rivet are absolutely terrible. I bought two, threw one out, tolerating the other.

The one mag either jammed or would pop the last round right out the top. Both of them barely fit the 5th round into the mag, therefore you couldn't put in the mag with the bolt closed. Tried to fix this by removing the rivet in the really ####ty one. Found out that the spring wasn't even connected to the follower.

Above all of this the overall construction is complete crap. Lines don't meet, minor damage, and with them being riveted you can't clean the gunk out of the inside when you disassemble them because the follower and spring are prevented from being taken out.

I'm looking for one of those mags with the long tab on the bottom of the follower that prevents you from loading more than 5rnds. They still have about 1/2rnd extra travel to allow you to load a full one into the rifle with the bolt closed.

Thanks

Marstar has 5 round mags at $19.95 each. They have 20 round mags that'll come pinned to 5 rounds too. $35.00. They don't say who made 'em though.

The Chicom 5/20 mags from Marstar work flawlessly. Never had a problem with the short or the long. They look the most authentic cosmetically without any rivets. The extra room for the sixth round is to allow for the bolt to close properly when inserted into the magazine well with 5 rds. Without the extra room, you will notice that you will have to almost force your mag in and is going to be very hard to pull the op rod because the bolt will be riding on top of the cartridge.

I've got three of the ones shipped by Marstar. Mine wouldn't seat on a closed bolt when loaded with five rounds. My solution was to disassemble the mag and drill out the origional rivot. I loaded six rounds in the empty tube and fit the follower in, marking the back of the follower with a felt marker through the rivot hole.

I then used a grinding bit in the dremel to cut a round relief cut, halving the distance between the bottom of the follower and the six round mark. There is a ton of material, so it's easy to give yourself lots of extra play without risking a sixth round.

Most 5/20 Norinco mags are supposed to work well, if not equal to USGI units, from what I read here on CGN. Is this correct.

The six round capacity part worries me. I'm picturing a conservation officer giving me some grief over this when out hunting. They check everything else looking for offences, so why not this?

have the same problem with two 20/5 with the pop rivet. problems with 5th round falling off when doing mag change

SAI magazines are rebranded (at times most are not some newer ones seem to be surfacing with the SAI logo) CMI magazines made the same as are the magazines CMI are selling to the US Military.

So they are "USGI" in the sense they are made on the same equipment/tooling and are made to the same specifications.
