M14 mount...machine your own??

Since I just received my very first M14, which is also my first new rifle (I own mainly milsurps and used rifles), I am in the market for a mount. I think I will spend the extra cash and buy the mount from Wolverine, but I was wondering if it is easily duplicated? My father is a retired machinist (worked on Canada Arm projects for Spar Aerospace) and over the last few years he has aquired a lathe and mill for small model train projects. Could a skilled machinist duplicate a 3-point mount in aluminum, or steel, fairly easily?

I also think it would be a great opportunity for my ol'man to pass on some skills to his #1 Son! :D

P.S.

The lathe and mill are Chinese built....coincidence??
 
My friend and I just ordered a few M14's and we also work in a machine shop. He ordered his with scope mounts and I ordered mine without. I don't think I'll have too hard of a time making my own.

I think I will order the Arms18 and have the old man try to copy it...
 
there is already an American made copy of the ARMS 18 mount by Promag.
Price is reasonable, quality is reasonable ...
why reinvent the wheel?

PS: I too am working on an M-14 mount, but it will be more of a top rail/rear sight/handguard replacement
