M14 Norinco Flash Hider, Require Guidance/Information/Help

Alright, update:

I picked up a brand new Flash Hider from a guy who got her from keepshooting.com

It definitely helped and fits right on the splines of my barrel but now I know for a fact that my barrel needs to be tightened into the receiver just a touch more.

The front post (of the properly machined flash hider) is still just slightly off to the right albeit now it is much better than with any of the Norinco ones.

Anyone in the Upper Ottawa Valley know how to (or have the tools) to index one of these things? :(

Send me a PM! This is a lot easier if you got the right tools. :D

I just hope the one I picked up will fix the problem.

I'm nervous that it is unlikely that two Norc flash hiders in a row would have the splines not properly aligned with the front sight base but apparently this is extremely common?

I always expected a few to be that off here and there but apparently it's like 9 out of 10.

I inspected 6 brand new Norcs in a shop today. On two the front sight was pretty close to true vertical. Two had the front sight leaning waaayyyy to the left. Two were leaning a bit left but maybe tolerable. So, you are right, you can't count on someone else's hand me down flash hider being any better than what you have.

Just installed a nice USGI at least equivalent FH and sight from Hungry (the cgn m14 guru, not the country) and my drunken front sight problems are gone.

Just sayin

ha ha ha I'm not the guru, I'm the guy who has made every screwup possible, possible. The real gurus are lurking around this post right now. I'm not joking! :D

Cheers,
Barney

PS One more sleep before I hit the open road....

veryt common issue. find a used springfield one, much better and straight like they should be. put a springfield one on mine and is much better. put an add in the ee saying your looking for one and im sure someone will get to you quickly with one. thats how i got mine.

That wasn't a " hand me down " FH. Its brand new in the bag and is flawless. As the op states, it confirms a minor indexing issue, and is "much better than any of the Norc ones ".

Ask me how I know :)
