I ordered one of the $18 David Tubb springs from treelinem14. Does anyone know if these work well in Chinease m14's? I'm using an NEA guide rod.

I have no experience with NEA rods or david springs, but I do know their are slight dimensional issues relating to rods and springs.

The Norc springs are slightly smaller in diameter then USGI spec springs. Thus, some manufacuriers are making their rods to the smaller diameter to use the norc springs. If you get a USGI spec spring (mostly from us sources) the spring will have a slight 'slop' to it if used with a norc sized rod.

I do not know what dimension NEA uses to manufacture their op rods. At the end of the day, it should work just fine but might not be as 'tight' as you would hope.

The Rooster33 Match op rod spring guide I used never had any issues with USGI or Norinco op rod springs.................The Rooster33 op rod guide was made to National Match Specs..........If the NEA op rod guide is made to NM specs, I don't think you will have any issues.......

The USGI op rod spring is a little stronger then the Norc spring........

Yeah, you will be fine. Yer #### won't  fall off with any spring size conflict(s).

The NEA guide rod is sized for the smaller ID Norc spring IIRC.

If you get stuck (super big if...) I have USGI extra power springs here for only $ 11 mailed to you. I sell them at my clinics because people are worried about #### loss! ;)

Cheers,
Barney

Kind of a moot point since Rooster spring guides are no longer in production but Rooster spring guides, like the Marstar ones, like the NEA, like M14 Doctor and any other Canadian manufacterer are generally all sized for Norinco(smaller diameter) springs. That said, because they are smaller diameter, they fit US springs but obviously have a little more wiggle room than US spring guides.

As far as I know, really only the US made ones are sized 'correctly' for US springs.

I guess you missed the part about the Rooster33 op rod spring guide being made to National Match Specs.........NM Specs are a U.S Standard, and when Rooster33 made his guides, he made them for the M14 type rifles he owned, which were Springfields........;)

Yeah rog, but solely from memory handling others, I could have swore than Rooster's guides fit the chinese springs which would make them non NM spec.

My mistake, I never got to own his spring guide, my NM spring guides were Badger Ordance and Sadlak which haven't failed me thus far.

I do have a couple marstar ones amongst my parts and I thought the only dimensional difference from theirs to Rooster's was the taper at the point.

Too bad his parts aren't available anymore, his bolt release was a nice design as well as the scout mount.

What's the reason for upgrading the spring? Does it really make any difference? Does it have any downsides? Increased chance of a slamfire maybe?

Good Gowd man!! If you haven't upgraded it yar #### will fall off!!! Jeez how many times can the same question be answered. original spring = #### falling off, aftermarket spring = ##### enlargement.

The aftermarket springs are nice, but it's kind of a "if it ain't broken, why spend money on it" kind of things.
Fact is, there are a vast majority of these rifles running stock springs without issue.
