my m14 parts kit oprod when installed on my m305 rubs the bottom of the barrel hard, it doesn't come close to passing the tilt test. with the spring removed I have to pull it open VERY hard to get it all the way open it rubs bottom of barrel about 1/4 from the receiver.

the norinco oprod passes tilt test and does not rub

any ideas???

bent op rod? op rod not in correctly? compare the two side by side, take a straight edge to them. we like pics, you're more likely to get better answers. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me chimes in.

I've got the problem as well except my USGI op rod wont even go in..

What does "wont even go in" mean?

I have one installed on my Norc. It requires a knowing love tap with a rubber mallet to seat/unseat it from the assy notch.

Quite common with the USGI stuff. Goggle is your friend.

I have had to hand fit every USGI op-rod tab to the each Chinese receiver they have gone into.

A bit of a touch with a file, to removing a fair bit of material.....

i had the same issue. slight filing of the op rod, and even needed a bit on the receiver. the norc just slid back and forth without the slightest resistance, USGI, needed a hammer at first.

Was going to start a thread and then i saw this thread.

Question... norc m305 original op rod lightly rubs on barrel. Ive got ~750 rnds through rifle, functions fine. Been wanting to solve problem for a while just never got around to it. Have been using grease as temp fix.

Any reason i cant file down op rod to solve issue?

I would recommend curing the disease as opposed to treating the symptom.....

That was meant to be a pun :D

Usually the op-rod rubs when something else is out of alignment. I would take a look to see if the barrel is over or under index and if the op-rod guide is square to the gas cylinder before I dug out a file.

The barrel index is good but I know the op rod guide is a bit out of alignment. It was rubbing since it came out of the box. The guide had a bit of play so i removed it and knurled the surface and mated the guide back on, with loc-tite to boot. Its definitely not square to the gas system but i dont think i can do much about it. That roll pin was a real nightmare to get back in.

The rifle shoots well (well enough for me), i can consistently ring an 8" plate at 200m with irons. The rubbing is the last thing i need to solve. Im saving my pennies to do a better build but this one has to do for now.

I appreciate the advice!

My M305 had that problem with the barrel properly indexed.

I bit of filing on the op-rod, a bit on the bottom of the barrel... fine now.

I had a similar problems with mine.
Indexed the barrel. Op rod guide was straight as an arrow. Op Rod was straight. Even swapped it out with a buddies to see if it was maybe just mine.
Same problem.
The bottom of the barrel looked like it was machined with a potato! It was not milled properly at all.
I took a file to the underside of the barrel slightly. Good to go now. Passes tilt test just fine now and hundreds of rounds down range with no issues.
