M14 or M1A?

I've been really wanting to get an M14 for a long time. I've even gone on Canada Ammo's website a few times and was almost done placing an order for one before I changed my mind.

I'm mainly worried about getting a bad one. Also I'm not very mechanically inclined and it seems like these rifles need a lot of work to get them to work well. So I guess my question is, would I be better off spending the extra cash and getting a Springfield M1A? Can anyone who owns both or has experience with both comment on whether the M1A is worth the extra money?
Thank :)

there are not alot of bad ones in this new run ...Buy the 305 off Can-am get a round spring guide off them at the same time ...clean it install new guide ...go shooting ...use the moneys saved to buy ammo and have fun with it ...you can buy alot of ammo for the $1000+ saved ......and if you need to upgrade something later on ,there is allways someone here to help ....and its still cheaper than a springfield.......jm2c

If you do a search on here this topic has been done to death.

The M1a will look better, be tighter, and might even be slightly better in somebodies eyes, but that is pretty much all you're getting for your money, it probably won't actually work better, shoot better or be more reliable. I dont have an M1A, I have an M25 with every (expensive) part and tweek that can be thrown into one of these and I really like it, but honestly is it that much better than my Norc, no.

It really is up to you and what is a priority for you, the Norc is really a fine gun, either buy one off the ee that has already been sorted and has all the tweeks you want or buy one from one of the reputable dealers here who have great warranty and then you have no worries.

And if you want an M1a buy that, they're all great.

No idea what province you're in but if it's Ontario or BC, if you get a dud rifle, there will likely be a clinic before too long in your province you could attend and tweak/learn about your rifle. Not sure about the other provinces.

Either way, if you have major problems, you can send it away to M14 doctor. Really, if you buy the Norc or Poly, you have little to worry about, for the price they are a lot of gun, if it needs work you will just be losing a little value.

I have owned several of each. And this summer I just sold my favorite M1A of all time but the Norc still remains in the gun safe. I love them both, but when money gets tight and and decisions have to be forced... The $2K M1A had to be sold. :(

Now about not being mechanically inclined, you will be surprised at what this platform can/will get you to do because this rifle just begs to be tightened up and it will reward you immediately, could that be why many M14 lovers are who they are now?

Thanks Barney. Since you seem to know a thing or two about the platform :), I think I will go with a Norc. Who knows, maybe I'll end up getting two. Wouldn't want my #### to fall off

Great choice! Your going to love it! And the best part is any Tom, #### or Harry can field strip an m305 and put them back together again in no time flat! Welcome to the addiction

You made the right choice.
I parted out my M1A to fund the purchase and build up of my second Norc receiver, no regrets.

Now a followup question:
What are some of the things I should check on a new Norc before I shoot it for the first time? After reading about some barrels flying off, I'm a bit concerned Also, i recall reading something about headspace on some that are way off?
Thanks very much :)

Doesn't mean it wasn't test fired.

Really?
So CanAmmo spends at least an hour cleaning them of all the grease, fires a test round and then smothers it all back up in grease?
If it was test fired it was in mainland China (if it was test fired at all, which I doubt).
