Hey, I'm currently try to build an M14 and am having difficulty finding a stock and someone to refinish and paint it. Can anyone help me out?

TW cadpat paint job on a McMillan pistol-grip folding stock and hand-guard ... how much? I'm curious! :D

Fabsports,

I took a serious look at your stocks and "camo package", but noticed that the butt plate is not included and you are sold out of butt plates. What are my options? Does the original norc butt plate from the wood stock fit the USGI stock or am I going to be stuck hunting for a butt plate that will fit.

Anyone care to chime in?

Yeah, the Norc M14 buttplate is nearly identical to the USGI M14 baby. Even I have a hard time telling the difference. :D

When switching to a glass stock from the balsa wood kommunist toxic oil stock, you cannot use the wood screw that secures the buttplate to the wood stock. The buttstock sling swivel is secured to the lower buttplate screw, that does not change from wood stock to glass stock to wood stock. The upper buttplate screw however (is a wood screw) must be replaced with an original machined nut and bolt ($ 9.99 from Numrich Gun Parts) or you can go to Home Depot and buy a # 8 x 2.0" x 32 tpi which happens to be almost the exact same diam and pitch to the USGI glass stock upper buttplate screw.

Remember that is you don't buy USGI parts, yer #### will fall off!

(inside joke in my clinics)

Peace be to journey,

Hungry,

If I get the plain black glass stock and paint it with krylon, will it provide a durable enough finish for range use only? On the question of original norc handguard, what material is it made of?

I'm waffling between getting the prepainted camo (not my first choice) because it comes with a hand guard vs. a plain black stock that comes with no hand guard but I can't make an educated decision until I know what the OE guard is made of.

Thanks. :sniper:

The original Norc handguard is made of fiberglass resin of some sort, just sand it down and take the Krylon to it. Go ahead.... feel free to paint up your own handguard. Get the plain black stock and you can always strip the black paint if you don't like it. That's the beauty of the USGI Glass stocks, they can take quite a beating AND also many paint jobs depending upon your mood. What other rifle allows you such freedom and fun ? :D

Hope this helps you....

You have no idea, I spent an hour waffling over the friggin' stocks last night. The question of the handguard was holding up deciding on just getting a black stock. The package deal that FAB is offering looked attractive because of the handguard but I'm not any sort of fan of painting a stock camo (would have to listen to my wife calling it "###" to boot), so the prepaint camo pack was keeping me from just going that route.

So yes, you've been a huge help. Thank you.

On another note, a friend tells me that there was an M14 clinic at Eastern Ontario Fish and Game. If that was you, when are you back in our neck of the woods?

Planning on doing another M14 Clinic in Mid March at the Vankleek Hill GC like we did a few months ago. That way the Montreal M14 lovers can attend as well. :D

this custom m14 stock is camo painted with krylon. I'd rather be using dura coat and will prolly go that route once i establish a steady paint supply..... but for the do it yerselfer, a lot can be accomplished with a few cans of krylon 'fusion' camo spray paints

on the subject of the norc buttplate to usgi fiberglass stock...... it is pretty much a direct swap over "except"..... the cleaning kit trap door hinge housing on the norc buttplate sits deeper into the buttstock than a usgi buttstock. Not much deeper and the buttplate will bolt up properly, but i have found that once tightened up, the norc trap door won't open. Simply mill out the space in the back of the stock with a dremmel where the trap door hinge housing sits, very simple job, takes minutes.

I have butt plate in stock, but original norinco butt plate fit too.

I don't use handguard on mine because I use tri-rail.
