M14 problem

I am having a similiar problem, one out of every five rounds stovepipes. I have tightened the gas nut and the problem is still occurring. the Weapon fires, another round is chambered, but the spent casing stovepipes and then the bolt is really tough to get back...any ideas?

Do you have a scope mount installed?
Some common things that can cause this are the springs in the bolt for the extractor are sometimes too stiff in the chinese bolts, can be repaired by shortening the spring or better yet replacing with USGI springs. A scope mount or the location of the rings can also interfere with the ejection of used brass.
Could also be related to the pressure in handloads...
Give us some more info and one of the gurus here will educate both of us as to what is likely the problem.

No problem.
Don't assume at this point that you need to lose the rail. Have a look at the underside of the rail to see if there are "dings" from the brass bouncing off it as it's being ejected. When I had the same rail installed I had these marks, but was lucky enough that it wasn't causing stovepipes.
If you have a scope mounted on that rail, have a look at the rings for the same marks. Some people have found that the brass was hitting the rings themselves, and just moving the rings to a different position on the rail, or changing to a different design of rings was enough to solve the problem.
If the rail is holding zero for you, then change those bolt springs before changing mounts. In fact even if the rail is NOT holding zero, I'd still change the springs as it will improve the function with other rails like the ARMS mount.

well as for my problem, it's fixed. I noticed the gas plug would literally loosen after 1-2 shots. So i took the plug off and removed the rubber crush washer thing (that isn't supposed to be there i guess) and tightened the plug. Now it isn't loosening either!!
