Anyone have this happen ? It looks like the pin securing the mag release button and spring in the trigger frame has drifted out while firing. The pin looks like it is against the mag frame of the stock. Because of this I cannot un hook the trigger guard fully to field strip the rifle. Any ideas on how to fix this ? You can see it to the left of the mag release latch/button. Sorry for the ugly socks :p Thank you.

I know this sounds obvious but I would try to get that pin that worked loose back in or at least out of the way of binding the trigger group from being removed for now. Like John said a small flat head or maybe some needle nose pliers to work in that small space.

Thanks for the help, i tried those things mentioned. The set of needle nose pliers i have are not needle nosed enough and i tried a thin flat head too.

Yup, what John said
I'd replace the pin afterwards
Had the same thing happen once with a well used USGI TRW trigger group, so it's not just a chinese thing.
Solved this problem a couple times now at clinics as well ;)

Rob: I had exactly the same situation happen to me during Hungry's Owen Sound seminar. Just couldn't release the trigger group and fell behind in the progress of the class.

Good thing it was my second seminar.

Solution was to poke around with a thin screwdriver, drift the pin back into position, then got a proper pin from Hungry, installed it, problem solved.

BTW, Rob...I thought you sold your M14?

Hi Jon, I bought another. Could not live without one. Thank you everyone for the help I will keep trying with the tools mentioned.

Yahooooo ! Elvis3006 is on his way back home. We turned him around inside 30 minutes of his arrival at my place. 25 min was spent telling army stories (I'm ex-PPCLI) and joking about the old days in the military. 5 minutes was actually spent working on this mag catch pin that wandered off. :D

And for all the Norc bashers out there... this was a USGI Trigger group that gave us a bit of grief. ha ha ha ha ha It ain't the high school shop class that built this TG, it was a HR-A (contractor for HR) mfg'ed TG.

Prevention ? I'm really uncomfortable 'red' Loctite'ing that baby in place. Not a USGI unit. Maybe a Norc High school shop class assembled TG, but I ain't gonna stake that pin in place because it's a USGI and that's sacrilege.

[I "might" have a new mag release pin kicking around, I'll check just in case Barney doesn't have one. ] Thomas = 45acpking = retired M14Doctor....

No worries, bud. I happen to have spares, but it's not needed. Thanks anyways for covering our SIX.

Elvis3006 knows what to do if that ever happened in the future:

* Find small cheap Princess Auto pocket screwdriver (yellow skinny handle)
* sharpen blade into super sharp pointy flat blade on dremel tool grinder bit
* EDGE that pointy flat blade skinny screwdriver against the END of the pin, and lightly hammer/tap
* that blade wedges itself and works the pin HOME.
* Using progressively FATTER screwdrivers, PRY that pin back in place while wiggling the mag catch to ensure alignment

* Celebrate with big handshakes!

Life is good!

Cheers and keep helping all the newbies, all you new 'experts' out there! :dancingbanana:
