Can anyone please tell me when the M14 first entered service with the US Army???

Wasn't the m14 essentially an updated Gerand? They improved the Gerand by adding a smaller round in a box magazine and a selector switch. Allowed soldiers to carry more ammo and fire in full auto.

The M 14 rifle platform has nothing to do with Grenades, except for the grenade launchers used extensively during the invasion of the Island of Grenadine. What a sticky mess that was. I see red every time I think about it.

He was living in Thailand at the time and was working for Springfield Armory Inc. Made the initial tooling from bamboo.
