M14 question

Mine shot 1.5 moa - 2 moa .. i tightened the op rod guide and flash hider and tightened up the gas assembly but have yet to test it out since
The norc m14 is a tinkerers gun meaning that there's always something to set up, tighten or adjust to get it to shoot that fraction of an inch better.
Bone stock, its pretty darn accurate for my tastes. If you handload, you can definatly work up a load that will shoot better then any factory load you can find even without touching the rifle at all!
The norc has somewhat of a cult following, thus if you buy one, you'll have to promise to our god Hungry to pass on any m14 knowledge you learn for free!!

i've got 3 isreali c/as that shoot at least quarter sized groups at 100 , and my old norc with handloads shoots right with them- but the trick is HAND LOADS- i've spent about 5 years developing loads for each rifle, segregated the brass, and started with a known target load, they varied up and down fron there, also looking for pressure signs- and that's off a bench, properly bagged fore and aft- with a past recoil shield- now when you can group all 30 rounds in the mag into a quarter at 100 , that says something about the rifle

) Douglas NM barreled with USGI parts set Norinco M14's could shoot into half an inch (center to center) all day long at 100m. I had them glassed with DEVCON into very stiff USGI glass stocks.
Yeah, the Norc does have potential.
Next question is: Do you have the CA$H to bring out all of it's potential? This can get quite pricey!!

Light hammer
The chinease M14 used to have a light hammer, too light to work well.
It is better to buy a springfield M1A, or an SVDS or a G3 with a heavy barrel (HK 91 special, PSG-1).
Hungry here: wowsers... no shzt?? Where/ What is your source for these "light" hammers ? I've been working on this family of rifles for over 20 years now and never have heard of "light hammers" in chinese M14's. Well, I could stretch my imagination to all those articles written by the super expert Clint McKee (a great guy) who tested a whole bunch of 1990's Norinco's and then wrote his findings on the internet (Fulton Armory's site), but that was then and this is now.... (mid 2000ish). Yes, it's always better to spend $ 1500ish on an M1A, because I won't tell anyone on this board that I had to fix it, after you have discovered that the Sproingfield Armory's Lifetime Warranty does not apply to Canuckistaniards.

I've heard that the norinco hammer "might" be soft, basically a 30$ part but the solutions you give... you can't shoot a prohibited gun real good because you can't shoot a prohibited gun and the springfield solution you give, depending on what you plan to do with the rifle, it might not be worth 1600$ more.

I have never heard this claim before ..... would like some reference material if "bizz" can provide some.
My norc is beyond the quality of an M1A supermatch, I'll bet the rifle on it, but then again it has a norc receiver, usgi firing controls and bolt and sights and bolt stop and krieger DMR barrel and smith ent crazy horse gas assembly....... and ....... oh ya... to get a rifle like this..... I bought a 400.00 norinco that shot just fine the way it was before i tore it down for this build.
In the +100 norcs I've inspected and worked on for fellow cgn'ers and the 17 that i have personally owned.... none had a soft hammer.
go buy at least one cuz you'll be kickin yerself later when the double in price.

NEGATIVE!!!!! Time to bring down the Hammer so to speak. I have over 2000 rounds through my almost stock Norc( Hungry welfare fixes aside) and have NEVER had a problem with the hammer!!! Maybe and I mean Maybe some of the first generation norc's but not anything in the last 5-7 years. Bizz, I am sure this was a marketing ploy by Springfield to get you to buy sprongfired parts and guns. I can't say for sure but I am almost damn sure it was.
Jethro66, don't buy one, buy 2 or your #### will fall off. Nay sayers will naysay the greatest rifle out there no matter who makes it! Be it a Norc or a Sproingfired. I absolutley love my 2 Norcs and can shoot sub MOA at 100 most of the day. Just my 2 pennies

A G3/HK91 is prohibited and has been since 1995.
"...Winchester Model 101..." You mean a Win M100? A 101 is a shotgun. In any case, it's a different rifle. A Win M100 is an old commercial hunting rifle. An M305 or an M1A is a commercial copy of a battle rifle. Not a good comparison.
